8/12/22 Hi again. I see my previous posts are still here. Last Friday we sat in the beer garden. I had chech pilsner Sunny Ridge. Perfect for the weather and my entrée of grilled salmon and summer risotto. Bill started with Hoponius Union, then two other ipa's. I can't remember. He had the harvest salad with chicken and we had a lovely time. Thank You Jack's Abby and Springdale. Good beer, Good food, Great Service. This review is over a year old, but it came up as unposted when I went to review My most recent visit, July 2021. ... Jack's is always good. I had a 5.5 double dry hopped lager Citrabrau and a red IPL called Lashes. And for desert a 2 oz peanut butter cup Baltic porter, delish. And the food wasn't bad either. Now, here's my latest review. 7/30/21: First of all I want to say we sat outside in the beer garden and it was a beautiful day and a great setting and the server's were attentive and friendly. Jack's had celebrated their 10th anniversary the weekend before with can pours. I guess that was the only way they had to sample their many beers from previous yrs. My husband and I go to breweries for draft beer not canned. Though there were maybe 20 beers on draft between the 2 breweries Jack's Abby and Springdale, several of the ones we wanted had kicked. This was 5 pm on Friday. I guess we just picked the wrong night being the wkend after. We were regulars prior to covid 19 and always found a great selection at this establishment. One thing I would like to convey to the Brewery is lack of a printed menu detracted from our beer experience. I really enjoy reading about each beer. The printed menu provided had no description and the online menu had some but not all. I kept having to rely on the server's knowledge of their product. Luckily for us our server was very knowledgeable. It just felt a little disorganized. For my beers I had Blood Orange wheat to start and a Springdale IPA which was great. Bill had Hoponius Union and Home Town Rising to finish. and we bought 2 4 pks of that it was soo good. Meanwhile, the food was great, I had grilled salmon and succatash and my hubby had pizza and...
Read moreI came here, for the first time, with a friend tonight and had a mixed experience.
We sat down at the bar and quickly got our beer and food menus. We each got our beers and I was surprised at how reasonable the prices were and how tasty they were. We both liked the atmosphere of the brewery as well.
My friend wanted to order food, but after drinking most of our beers, neither bar tender came back to ask if we wanted food. They also didn’t have a cheerful demeanor by any sense. I tried to get their attention verbally without yelling, but to no avail. It looked like they were on a mission to get out of there (which I totally get, as a restaurant employee myself) but we were almost invisible. Finally, one of them came up and said “You didn’t want food right? The kitchen is closing.” My friend said he did and ordered a hot dog with slaw. The food came out in a very timely manner and looked really good. However, there didn’t seem to be any mustard (that we could see) on his dog and, perhaps the most disappointing part of this visit, the crumpled up order slip was buried under the slaw. I’m not sure how you can over look that when making and sending an order, but there it was. By this point, I’m out of beer and they ring the bell for last call, right in front of me and my empty beer glass. I tried again to wave and yelled (Yo!) to get their attention for another beer and to bring light to my friends situation. Invisible. Finally after a few minutes we caught one of them and told them what had happened. My friend sent the food back and I was still not asked if I wanted another beer, as he ran off immediately with the food. We finally got more beers, that were also extremely delicious, but felt sad that such a cool place with such good beer was spoiled by bad service and bad attention to detail in the kitchen. With how many good places there are, that also have good food, beer, and attentive and cheerful customer service, I can’t see coming back except to buy some cans or a...
Read moreJack's Abby is one of the newcomers in the Boston brewing scene however it has quickly risen to the top since it launched in early 2011. They specialize in lagers and have brewed some of the finest ones I've had and have also collaborated with other breweries to create some excellent beers. While most are readily available for purchase in various shops in and around Boston, a trip to the brewery is worth it and you'll be able to sample all kinds of beers in their tasting room.
Speaking of the tasting room, it's pretty spacious and seats about 10 people at the counter and has room for about 20-25 people who can stand as well. At any given time they have nearly a dozen samples available for anyone to try and they also sell a few of their bottles beers. You can also fill growlers there as well as buy all kinds of merchandise including t-shirts, cooler bags, tap handles and hats.
So far they've released a total of 25 beers, some better than others but they've quickly become one of my favorite American breweries. Not because of their location but because of the quality of their beers. They're extremely consistent and they've been able to create a very diverse selection of lagers, from their smoked maple lager to their Smoke and Dagger and their Copper Legend. Some of their beers are seasonal, others have been brewed only once and my personal favorite of theirs which I found to be absolutely world-class with their Kiwi Rising which was absolutely incredible. I can only hope that they make another batch in the future but I also look forward to more of their creations in the future.
Oh and if you plan on going there frequently they have a growler fill rewards card that you can get that will get you some sort of discount after x number of refills. They're also very friendly and can field all kinds of questions that you...
