TL:DR - Standard dive diner fare. Not great. Not that terrible. It's ... food?
It was probably a bad sign when I got to the empty parking lot to pick up my food from phoning in an order. It was probably a bad sign when I walked in and literally all the staff were sitting around. It was probably a bad sign when I was ignored. But I picked up my order, paid, and wondered how much I was charged because they didn't offer me a receipt.
I had ordered the pot roast dinner, which the person on the phone accepting my order knew absolutely nothing about. I had to guide them through which sides came with my meal. In the end, I got the pot roast dinner, baked potato, mixed vegetables, and seafood bisque. Checking my credit card statement later, I found out it was ~$18, so they must have added a tip for themselves, or the prices on the menu are inaccurate.
When I opened the container, I immediately thought they had mistakenly given me meatloaf, not pot roast. The "gravy" was red? What was probably beef was in slices? The menu talked about slow roasted, but in that case it should have broken apart with my fork - and it barely broke apart when I took a knife to it. The meat pieces were bland, firm, slices of beef. The gravy was glorified tomato sauce. This is not pot roast.
The mixed vegetables were fresh from the freezer, to the microwave, to me. They weren't slathered in garlic butter, which was a nice surprise. However, the mix was literally out of the freezer section of a grocery store. Fine, but I literally have better veggies in my own freezer.
The baked potato, foil and all, were plopped in the red gravy. After I rescued it from the crimson tide, it was arguably and regrettably the best part of the meal. Well cooked and came with plenty of butter on the side. It is so sad that it was the best part of the meal.
The "seafood" bisque was a weak, gelatinous, milky-pink mix of what might have been milk, "seafood" bits (read as: imitation everything), and a red pepper flake or two. It was kind of like eating penne ala vodka sauce with wobbly bits of fake crab in it. I would not be surprised if that is what it was.
All in all, disappointing. Yes, this is a diner. But also yes, their food should be better. Won't be back unless I'm looking for some drunk food, or literally have...
Read moreWent here for dinner with family on 2/17. The place only had a few customers in the dining area. We waited approximately 20 min for our waitress to come over and speak to us. After she brought our drinks we didn’t see her again for 30 min. We finally ordered the following meals, prime rib with green beans and baked potatoe, chicken cour don bleu over fettuccine. Chicken fingers, country chicken with apple cranberry sauce and stuffed mushrooms. The cour don bleu ( I know it’s misspelled) was like rubber, you couldn’t chew it and the chicken was very dry. The prime rib was ordered medium, it was over cooked and was extremely tough, burnt ou ju sauce all over it and was a very fatty cut of meat, baked potato was so hard I thought part of it was a rock, it couldn’t be cut with a steak knife. Green beans were fried on the grill and had a hint of something all over them so they were not eaten. Country chicken was an extremely thin slice of breast meat, way overcooked, tough and dry. The cause was a good flavor and well prepared. The chicken fingers were ok, I have a fussy 8yr old and she ate them. The mushrooms were the only part of our meal that was any good. After voicing my concern with who claimed to be in charge I was simply told “sorry” nothing more. The bill was over $80.00 and the food was not very good . The waitress kept disappearing for extended periods. And I was up all night not feeling well. I’m pretty disappointed over all at the quality of food and service. Especially considering if the food and services were good it would be a weekly...
