I feel bad only giving them 3 stars but that's how I feel. The high points are that the food is usually good, though occasionally the chicken fingers would be dry. I like that their food isn't overly greasy like many places and their service sizes are generous. The employees are very friendly and helpful.
Now for why only 3 stars. We have been ordering from here for several years, usually at least twice a month- when we can. Of the many times we've ordered around 25% of the time the chicken fingers are very dry- like a mummy. Just shriveled, wrinkly hard chunks. I would think their cook would notice and toss those out rather than serve food that isn't edible.
The other reason for only 3 stars is that it seems they are always closed. Every other area I've lived, Chinese restaurants seem to always be open- Christmas day. New Year's Eve. Thanksgiving, and more. Unfortunately not here. Besides many other times that they are closed, what shocks me is that they close early on New Year's Eve, probably the biggest night of the year to order take-out. And what they do offer before closing is a very limited menu that you have to order in advance.
They also seem to close for various other reasons very often. Several times every year I try to get take-out I find that they are closed for a week or two at a time for various reasons, such as vacation. The entire business takes vacation at the same time? There are no other employees to work when someone takes a week off? I've never seen another restaurant that is closed as often as May Garden. Unfortunately for them, but fortunately for us, when they were closed earlier this year I checked around and found another Chinese restaurant that is very good, though a little more expensive. I'd rather pay a little more for good food at a place that is open when I have a craving...
Read moreMy husband and I went to May Garden for the first time today after a friend had recommended it and after reading some good reviews on here. I am going to start with the positives. Our server was wonderful. She was friendly, energetic, and attentive. The restaurant was very clean and had an overall good vibe to it. We had very high hopes for the food and unfortunately this is where the positives end. We ordered chicken egg foo yong, pork fried rice, and beef with pea pods and mushrooms. The egg foo yong, and the gravy it came with had NO flavor whatsoever. We tried soy sauce, salt (I’ve never in my life had to salt Chinese food) and even hot mustard to bring it to life but it was beyond hope. The beef, pea pod and mushroom dish was horrible. Again, flavorless and the sauce gave the beef a slimy texture that I could not get past. I will say, we did like the mushrooms though. Last, the rice. Oh, the rice…Is rice supposed to be crunchy? Well, it was and again, lacked any kind of flavor and no amount of seasoning could make it palatable. I honestly hate leaving bad reviews, but I also hate wasting money on something we really looked forward to. I won’t tell you not to go here like a lot of people do, because we all have different taste buds. But, just be prepared for a sad experience if you do...
Read moreI ordered yesterday for New Year's Eve celebration. I'm a vegetarian so they menu is very limited. I ordered spring rolls, vegetable fried rice, and thought i had ordered their vegetable delight. When i got home and opened what i thought was vegetable delight it was meatless chow mein. All that wad in there was bean sprouts and onions in a sauce. I tasted it and it was NASTY. The other things were good. Needless to say i called and spoke to a manager just a few minutes ago and there isn't anything they're going to do. I was tks told that that is what i ordered. She said that i wanted that because i didn't want the vegetable delight because it cane with white rice. That isn't what i said at all. All i wanted was to get something to replace what i got that i didn't order. I told them i probably won't go back there again. Hopefully they read this and do something about...
