Driving off Route 295, we found Athena’s Cantina in Freeport, Maine, but our first impression was skepticism. The place was eerily empty, the menu looked limited, and we questioned our decision to stay. That hesitation vanished when we met the owner, Tais, whose infectious enthusiasm warmed us instantly. As we talked, we noticed the restaurant’s immaculate shine—every corner sparkled, reflecting the care poured into this family-run spot.

Then the food arrived, and it was a game-changer. The Latin fusion cuisine, weaving authentic Mexican, Brazilian, and Spanish flavors, was phenomenal. The enchiladas were divine, smothered in a rich, velvety mole sauce that balanced smoky depth with subtle sweetness, wrapping tender, perfectly seasoned meat. The quesadillas were a revelation—crisp, golden tortillas oozing with melted cheese and vibrant fillings, each bite bursting with freshness. The burrito bowl was a colorful masterpiece, layered with fragrant rice, fresh veggies, and succulent meats, all tied together with a zesty, house-made salsa that sang with love and authenticity. Every dish felt like a rare treasure, crafted with meticulous care and ingredients so fresh they seemed plucked from a garden moments before.

Athena’s Cantina turned our doubts into pure joy. This isn’t just food; it’s a culinary embrace, a fusion experience you won’t find often. For anyone craving authentic Latin flavors in Maine, this spot is unmissable. We’ll be back, and you should go too. Highly...

Where do I even begin describing this Freeport gem? Tais and Adam are the duo you never knew you needed. Kind, hardworking, professional, and the best part- amazing at what they do! Their catering options for events are also top notch, and were a massive hit at our holiday event; personal charcuterie boxes, hommade macarons, and margaritas to die for! We will definitely be using their services for all of our local events. You can tell that everything coming out of their kitchen is made with love. Stellar drinks, great food, and a wonderful atmosphere... what more can you ask for? I can't wait to try their new desert bar, Oasis, in the new...

We unfortunately didn’t get to try the food as we left before we were served because the staff was so rude. The woman inside who worked there didn’t greet us or acknowledge us in any way so we stood there for a couple minutes before she said “yes?”We told her we would like to place a to go order and she said they weren’t doing to gos that night before turning her back on us. Not even asking if we wanted to sit down or anything. We were really excited to try this place because it had great reviews but this place gives off very unfriendly vibes. Definitely...

Had their prized birria poutine at NH's PoutineFest and can honestly say it was the best I've ever had. Their birria was so juicy and flavorful and the queso fresco, crema, cilantro and hot cheetos just brought everything together. We tried it with and without their hotsauce and both were delicious. If it's not on their menu, it definitely should be. We would make the drive up to Maine just for that.

They serve great latin fusion food. The food truck is at most Freeport area events and serves an ever changing menu of tacos and other street food. Everyone is very friendly and the service is top notch. They are at the Freeport Oyster Festival today and are usually at the Freeport Makers On Main event each month. Stop by for some tasty food.
