Awful. Don't torture yourself by dining here. Do not be fooled just because the outside of the building has been renovated. They basically just polished a turd. The dining experience was a failure on many levels.
Walking in and sitting down, the first thing i noticed was that it was not cool inside. It wasn't super hot, but it wasn't a refreshing cool feeling either. The temperature was barely tolerable, and there were flies.
They brought chips and salsa along with our drinks. I opened a packet of sweet & low to put in my iced tea and it came out clumpy. "How old is this packet?", I thought to myself. The salsa was good but the chips were stale. I ordered a burrito and my woman ordered a torta. My tortilla seemed old, had way too much flour on it, and in general didn't taste good. Her torta would have been good, but to her disgust, she found herself chewing on some kind of paper. I looked at the sandwich, and inside, it had sliced cheese like you might buy from Costco. I told her the cook likely accidentally left the cheese paper while making the sandwich. We didn't bother complaining. Why bother, this place is a dive anyway.
Next the supervisor was having a discussion with an employee about who was to be washing dishes, dedication to working at the restaurant, and the startup of the fall semester. I was trying to ignore it but the discussion was happenning right in the dining area and I felt it was unprofessional. We paid the bill and I still left a decent tip because the service was good (the dining area is very small). However, everything in the menu was very overpriced.
As we were leaving and walking around the back of the building to get to our vehicle, I noticed that the restaurant was being cooled by a grungy old evaporative cooler with extremely nasty cooler pads covered in black mold. That explained the barely adequate ambient temperature, and perhaps the stale chips and clumpy sweetener. As we were driving she tells me that while we were inside she got a glimpse into the kitchen and saw a cook putting something in the microwave.
Overall, it was an unsatisfactory experience and we will definitely not be returning.
Edit There are many good reviews of this place but I honestly don't know what people see in it. For the money there are so many other restaurants that are so much cleaner and have fresher & better food. But, it's your money and your choice. Frankly, you can get better food from...
Read moreInside seating is a tight fit, but when it comes to homemade tortillas it's worth it. The outside has seating, which is where we sat. The service was excellent and all the staff kept checking up on our table to see if we needed refills or anything. We ordered three different plates. One ordered taco, rice, and beans. Tried the meat wasn't bad but felt it had stronger flavor of something other than what I wanted to taste. The pieces were too thicke for my liking, probably just use to the taco trucks with skimpy meat. Second plate taquitos with guacamole on top, all rice no beans. Rice is the reason I go to any restaurant. So for this rice I was not pleased. It just didn't taste authentic, in the land of the poor we don't add much flavor just the basics and that is what I was looking for, but this rice tasted more commercialized, something I could have gotten in a can. The taquitos were good and the guacamole was good too. I don't like onions and the guacamole had it in there but the taquitos are not complete without guacamole. Third plate was papas and beans with the homemade tortillas. That plate was devoured so I didn't get a chance to taste the papas but I'm going to assume they were delicious. Tortillas were good and the beans were a GO, too. Had to put beans in a tortillas cuz it's the Mexican thing to do. Everyone has different preferences but I would deffinently try this place if you...
Read more😝I ate here years ago, I didn't like. A friend wanted to go here, that loved it, and hadn't been here in years as well, so I gave it another shot. I was disappointed again and so was my friend. The potatoes are boiled , not fried (traditional). The bacon is like it was bought in a block and they chopped it up, not in strips (traditional). The pieces of bacon were so big and fatty that I couldn't eat it, and it got stuck in my teeth terribly! I didn't like the consistency of the beans. So I was reduced to an egg burrito, not to say that the tortillas had a great flavor. My friend had chilaquiles and sent it back, because he didn't like the flavor. They did replace the plate, but again he was unhappy with his choice. 😁 The restaurant has remodeled since my last visit. It is very festive. The restaurant looks clean. The seating is small and tight, but they offer additional seating outside on the patio. The service was great. Servers were clean in appearance, attentive and helpful in explaining the menu choices. They have a lunch special for $5.99! The chips and salsa were fresh and tasty. ☝️ Neither of us will be returning, BUT I will say the place was packed! So locals love this place. They must, being that they've been here for years! So you...
