Hubs and I went to celebrate our 15yr anniversary. We wanted to do something different and because it was restaurant week, I wanted to go here to this Fresno iconic spot. how many times have you driven by but never stopped? Too many to count for myself. Anyways we were going to do the restaurant week special, but we saw the other "dinner for 2" special. I wanted wine anyways, so this seemed like a better fit. Meal included garlic bread, shrimp cocktail, soup or salad(we got chowder and it was absolutely delicious), main course, and a glass of wine. We also nought sauteed mushrooms as mushrooms is something we both really like. This showed up after our bread. Mushrooms were really fantastic and I'm glad we ordered it. everything else up to the main course had been good and we were enjoying ourselves. our waitress did take a while inbetween each time on checking on us...or we would tell her something and she'd forget. We get our main course - squash, mashed potatoes, and prime rib for myself, hubs got the same.but chilli beans instead of squash. i start eating and notice a crack in the plate. but dont think anything of it. i dive into my squash and think, these are good.. hubs us enjoying his chilli. we get to our prime rib...i notice the crack isnt a crack. its hair. a dark piece of hair embedded with the juices from the prime rib. im partially blonde so its definitely not mine. hubs prime rib is over cooked. so while waiting a while....because we have no idea where our waitress is....we finally get her attention. we explain the situation. she takes them back. 5 minutes later she tells us they are out of prime rib. REALLY? we have no choice but to get another steak, a Ribeye. (Which imo is a downgrade, as we could have made this ourselves). We get a whole new plate. we finish our meal and by this time we're defeated. i keep my mouth closed because im trying to have a good time...this is am experience in Fresno. but deep down im fuming hubs makes the comment, how are you known for prime rib yet run out?? yea...thats how i felt. while eating dinner, the waitress never came back with hubby's ice tea that he asked for. he gets it after we are long done. We ask for our check and leave... defeated and saddened, upset by our experience. Was the food good? Definitely. Richard's an iconic fresno establishment? yes. Would i go back?...
Read moreWe were hungry for seafood, so Richards was the place. We were taken to a room, that room was filled. We were then taken to another room that was empty. Evidently they do not track full and empty rooms and tables. I ordered a beer, a stout. They brought me an IPA opened. Never told me they did not have stout. The fried shrimp were pathetic. As was the shrimp cocktail. The shrimp were tiny, like out of a frozen bag from China. My baked potato was so old it was hard. And being from Louisiana where we have great seafood, I understand Fresno is not on the coast. But to serve an old potato, there is no excuse. I ordered a creme brule for desert. It was OK. My friends ordered cheese cake and it was maybe the best plain cheese cake I have ever eaten. Hungry for cheesecake, this is the place. For seafood, go to Louisiana. I voiced my complaint to a waitress when she asked how my meal was and that led to the manager coming over. After graciously hearing my issues, he offered me one of his shrimp cocktails on the house. I had not mentioned to him that I had one and it was, by far, the worst I had ever tasted. I just declined without comment. Even at no cost it was just not worth facing. On the way into the restaurant we saw a helicopter hovering with a search beam. When we left, there were 5 police cars with lights going that were parked near the restaurant. Evidently they had found their culprit. Could be the neighborhood is...
Read moreLove the classic old school feeling. Friendly and warm. Staff greated everyone like family especially when their 'regulars' came in, hugs all the way around. It was awesome to see. Takes you back to a time when everyone truly cared about each other. Drinks were YUM! GENEROUS for sure! Comfy seating. They take reservations if you don't want to wait to be seated. But they have a full top shelf bar with a Ginormous beer & wine list while you wait to be seated. Food was excellent. So delicious. Fried String Bean appetizer was the best. (We ate a bunch b4 I took the picture) Steak to perfection! Perfect crispy salad, tasty bread, fresh shrimp cocktail with your entree and my spouse said some of the BEST Clam Chowder around with tremendous chunks of fresh clams! Service was on spot with a friendly young staff constantly checking on you and clearing tables. And an experienced wait staff taking orders and bringing you your incredibly mouthwatering food. This was our 1st visit. Truthfully was a little hesitant because of some of the comments I had read, but parking is well lit and safe, right by entrance. And artwork is tasteful and old school retro. It's a family own and run business and Ben who introduced himself to us, seems to be like a proud captain at helm, running it. I saw him greet everyone that walked in, he pitched in at the bar, checked on everyone at their tables and thanked EVERYONE as they left! Can't...
