Always a wait at 302 West, but I promise it's worth it. Friendly wait staff with excellent bartenders. I've always eaten in the bar area, I haven't been to the dining room yet but I secretly love the bar area with all the dollar bills with people's writings on them and the atmosphere that comes along with it. Finally tried the chicken balls and they are fantastic! The first time I came I got the cowboy nachos definitely check those out if you have a bigger appetite. The Balls are, Crispy fried balls on the outside, but inside has the most juiciest tender chicken and cream cheese with subtle, not overpowering spices with a buffalo dipping sauce to die for. We literally ate all our veggies so we could eat up the rest of that buffalo. My fiance got the burnt ends platter with loaded french fries and coleslaw. The burnt ends are so delicious flavorful and just absolutely everything you would hope Brisket ends to be. Pictured is what I got which was the burnt ends melt, which I will 100% be going back for. A ton of burnt ends mixed with macaroni and cheese pickled onions and pickled jalapenos. My mouth is already watering. I brought home half my sandwich just to eat it a couple hours later it couldn't even make the night. The coleslaw is definitely a hit. I am incredibly picky about my coleslaw and there's this perfect. It's not sweet it has a great flavor it's crunchy fresh vegetables I highly recommend. Also pictured is the dirty Shirley I got, 10/10...
Read moreWhenever I am in the area I try to make at least one stop at 302 West. Good pub food, great vibe, excellent beer selection. Although there are other good things there I always end up with the "All American Goodness" cheeseburger" platter. It's an old fashioned cheeseburger deluxe with two medium sized thin patties cooked on the flat grill, with 302's wonderful fries. And the fries are indeed wonderful, especially when the local Maine potatoes are coming into season.
The decor is kitchey and quirky (in a good way) and reflects the owner's collections over a period of years. Notable is the vast collection of one dollar bills that have taken over a large section of the exposed beams over the bar and dining area. Clientele includes colorful locals (and being rural Maine, there is no shortage of same) and a young international crowd during the school year, due to the proximity of the Fryeburg Academy. On a nice day, it is a pure joy to eat at rail of the outdoor deck, overlooking a field and the White Mountains in the background.
Cons: Because of the seasonal nature of the business there is periodic turnover of the kitchen staff, so things you may want (like the late lamented portobello mushroom sandwich) may disappear as a new chef takes over the kitchen. This happened this year and really limited the...
Read moreFirst time at the 302. Heard a lot about it. It is pretty pricey which is fine if you get what you pay for. We ordered the grand nachos, very good. My wife had the burnt pork end sandwich, she said it was very good. My son got the full rack of ribs and he said they were very good. I ordered the 302. There's where the star gets lost. For the price paid I would say the others Certainly fell in line. My 302 was on the thinnest layer of mashed potatoes. Atop those mashed potatoes was a sprinkling of the bbq chicken. It was shocking for the the $25+ price tag. Here is the menu description. 302 Saddle Bags A pile of mashed potatoes with melted cheese, topped with your choice of BBQ pork, chicken or brisket, finished with crispy tumbleweed onions. I could not give 5 stars as there was NO pile, the chicken was so scarce and I asked for the onions on the side and did not receive them. Very disappointed. The nachos with the pork were close in price with a TON of meat. Just didn't fully meet all the hype about it be the best local restaurant. Prices were the same if not more than the tourist traps right over the border in...
