Won't be going back ever again...the problem with this place in order of issue: 1) Customer Service, 2) Food.
The food is passable at best, but there were limited BBQ options in the area before Dickey's moved in. Neither are great BBQ joints, but have done in the past in a pinch. No, the real issue here is customer service.
Placed an order for pickup, and when I got there, the computers were down and had been (even before I placed my order). Don't lose that sale, fellas...of course had you told me on the phone I may have gone elsewhere, but instead you roped me into an order and made me sit and wait for an additional 20 minutes after waiting for my food to even be ready. Yeah, 20 minutes isn't that long of a wait since the computers were down, but it's long enough for my food to get cold, as I found out once I finally made it out. They also, once they got their computers back up, took 2 people who had just walked in to pickup rather than starting with someone that had been waiting. Makes total sense. One of their customers also accosted me because I didn't have any toothpicks for him...apparently he thought I worked there...but since he told me I was "Too goddamn busy on my cell phone to address his issues", I suppose it tells you something about the clientele they attract. Too illiterate to read a shirt even...
Then to top it all off, when calling in to let them know that my food was cold once home, the manager didn't offer any form of reimbursement. They offered to send a driver with more food, but at that point, it was game over for us. Also, thank you for getting parts of my order wrong...and you should revise your coleslaw recipe as it tastes like straight mayonnaise. The whole order ended up in the trash...we weren't going to reheat cold BBQ that we paid way too much for given the quality. Instead, we took a trip to Libertville and ate at Clucker's Charcoal Chicken. Highly recommend it if you're looking for good BBQ, Wings, Soups and more if you can make a little bit of a longer drive.
Overall, overpriced for what it is, and customer service from the people at the front to the manager on duty lost me as a customer. They'll be fine as their margins are probably through the roof given their price tag, but there are better options if you can drive a little further.......waaaaaaaaay better options. Apparently, according to their responses further down, have high prices because their product quality is high...but I don't see the value for the buck in the...
Read moreWe stopped by on the way back from Apple picking at Stade Farm and decided to give it a try. There are no shortage of good BBQ joints downtown where we live, like Chicago Q, Carson’s and Bub City, so the bar for us is pretty high. Since it was lunch, we didn’t go all the way out by getting the ribs and chicken, but did considered the nachos, wings, the rib tips, and the Mac and Cheese with pulled pork, it should cover the basics. Let’s start with the drink menu and sauces. The drink menu is pretty standard, not huge but consists of mostly common brands and some micro brew. I am a sauce guy, it actually matters to me more than the rub, and I usually look for some uniqueness in the sauces. Here I couldn’t really tell the differences in the sauces except for the Alabama White, the other sauces taste like they have the same base and they just added some different spices here and there. Not impressive but worked for me. Now the food, the wings are as good as they can get, the amount of rub was perfect and you can use it to dip in whatever sauces you want. The Mac and Cheese with pulled pork, was also an unique and exceptional combination and compliments each other perfectly. The rib tips were just OK for me, not much flavor unfortunately and the meat was a little chewy (dry) but the corn bread was good. Now you are probably wondering what happened to the nachos that we ordered. Here comes the service part. The nachos and wings were supposed to be appetizers, and the Mac and Cheese and the Rib tips were supposed to be mains. The M&C and Ribs came up in less than 10 minutes, very fast, since they were pre-made anyway, just heat on the grill, cut and scoop. We were wondering where the appetizers went and we were told that they will come. Technically for BBQ, the serve order doesn’t really matter but we waited over 25 minutes after the mains came and we were almost done eating our mains (slowly), just right before asking for the bill and leaving, they came. Obviously we wouldn’t have kept eating so we took the wings to go, nachos unfortunately are not take home food so we canceled it. So we had no idea what it tastes like but it looked really good. The 2 stars lost here is for the rib tips quality, sauces and the service. We would still recommend this place to others who are looking for descent BBQ outside of Chicago, and we will come by again in the future to try others on the menu if we go...
Read moreWas there for lunch on May 13, 2024. ( I was 1 of 2 customers in the entire place ) Totally disgusting, horrible “chef” that has no clue or respect for good food. The mashed potatoes were horrible, the Mac and cheese were sickening , the half slab as they call it was burned and the worst I’ve had in my lifetime , and it looked like a 1/4 slab. There is absolutely no excuse for serving this level of garbage. The bartender also had no clue what he was doing. Ordered a manhattan that said “smoked at the table,” and your choice of liquor. He didn’t smoke anything at the table and didn’t follow instructions. Offered no credit on the items. Was like an episode out of the show kitchen nightmares. Will never goto anougher restaurant in greys lake after this horrendous ordeal ! Bad enough that the cook makes & burns food like a high school boy but then offers no excuse what so ever and does not allow to be sent back ! Whoever manages and owns this establishment is a lamer! Also the presentation looked like prison food slop. The cook can’t even make coke slaw either. Strongly suspect that most people from Grayslake give good reviews simply because they have never gone anywhere but this place or north burbs. There was only one other customer in the entire place and all the waiter did was socialize instead of serving us . All he could do was say “ I just work here “ if I paid with my credit card I would have disputed the charge . Entire experience was deplorable and obnoxious ! Floors and bar was also not cleaned properly , the cups were totally improper for alcoholic beverages and it was clear they were not following proper sanitation standards. The person claiming to be the owner seems to think because I have rated every lake county and McHenry county restaurant with one star that somehow my ratings are flawed. This man is completely delusional and does not take responsibility for any of his mistakes in life. The picture clearly shows that his ribs were completely burned. This is not how you cook ribs in any professional setting. Take some responsibility for your poor management skills you’re never at that place and your employees do whatever they want, I doubt that even a full owner of this place by the way you comment. Take responsibility for your actions, sir and stop making excuses for being a total...
