Xang Thai & Sushi (Old Lovely Thai) — Restaurant in Grayslake

First time trying after new ownership and I'll admit I like the new menu offerings. We ordered carryout for a Friday night dinner date over the phone. When arriving at the restaurant 30 minutes later they were very busy. Their restaurant was practically full and they had a short line for carryout. This kept me waiting an extra 10-15 mins but I understand it's the weekend dinner rush and I just was hoping the food was still good.

We ordered the crab rangoon, chicken basil fried rice, blue crab fried rice, shrimp tempura roll, and some boba teas. All tasted good. The recipe sure isn't like the original Lovely Thai but it was good in its own way. For the blue crab that I originally ordered they didn't have any blue crab available after I placed the order so they subbed with other crab meat and discounted from the dish price in the end. We were excited to know that they offer sushi now and tried the shrimp tempura roll because who can mess up something as simple as that roll? Guess what? We loved it. We will definitely be trying some more rolls in the future.

As for the overall state of things here I think the new Xang Thai & Sushi will be great. Lovely Thai will be missed but I'm glad Grayslake still has good Thai food options plus the added Japanese menu items. We can't wait to try more dishes and actually dine in...

It's been about 6 or 7 years since I have been here. The food used to be amazing! ALL of the dishes that I order were wayyyy too sweet. I ordered shrimp tom yum soup, shrimp pad thai, thai iced tea and tofu spring rolls. Sweet sweet sweet! Way too much sugar! My boyfriend and I ate our food because we were starving but it wasn't the most enjoyable meal. Secondly, I reminded my waitress that we had not received our appetizers and she asked me if I was sure. I replied yes. Then her manager came out and asked me if I was sure I didn't received my apps. I sharply replied yes I'm sure. It was odd to be asked, let alone twice. However, my boyfriend and I both ordered the lunch specials, a thai tea and a bowl of white rice for our one year old. It was only $33 and the portions were large, especially for lunch. The food also came out very quickly and the waitress was nice. They had great service until new management came! I had been a regular customer for 3 years now until a week ago. In 1 week I had 2 incidences so very disappointing!

1. there was hair in my food, they did cook up a new meal and I just packed it to go because I had come in on a lunch break, went to work to eat it later and guess what! Another hair!
2. I went back 2 days later thinking it’s okah it happens I ordered my dish and they gave me something completely different and being a customer for 3 years they knew that I do not eat pork yet they still served me pork, I called back to let them know and she replied with ‘sorry we didn’t check before sending it out’ Horrible! I went back and one of the cooks was having lunch and he gave me a full blown attitude because I bought the dish back UNTOUCHED and just wanted a refund because at this point I had enough!
