Needing a stop, we thought we'd check out the Hilltop fried pies and burger joint. The space was nice and staff was super friendly. We had already eaten a reasonable lunch but I wanted to see what a fried pie was all about. I ordered a savory (3 meat pizza pie) and a sweet (coconut cream) pie and my kids ordered a chocolate pie. We passed on the burgers and other fare but I saw other people who had it and it looked reasonable.
For the pies, I am a newbie to fried pies so these maybe the best fried pies in the world and I may be taking a swipe a the whole genre here. My overall take was that I was not a huge fan. The batter was extemely greasy and the whole thing became a mess to eat that didnt give me enough return in flavor to want to continue. The filling was not enough to overcome the grease of dough so I stopped on both of them.
I had great hopes but didn't find it in these pies. Even though the food and I weren't friends I still give the place 3 stars because the people were great and service was...
Read moreSkip all other food stops and make it point to come here. We finally made it just to get some fried pies and saw the amazing burgers others were eating here and decided to just get lunch here. It did not disappoint.
First off, these are truly the best fried pies I've had by far. We got the apricot, cherry, and chocolate and they were all amazing. The burgers were huge and so good especially with the nice crispy homemade fries. Really, just stop here if you want delicious home cooked food. I had the chicken wrap and it did not disappoint. There's some cool items in the menu you would not expect to find there as well. This place is a gem. We will make it a point to stop here on our trips through.
If you are coming from Winstar, skip all the food options there and make it here instead. You won't be...
Read moreIt was okay. Definitely nowhere near the best burger I’ve ever had. VERY greasy. I was underwhelmed. Service wasn’t good at all. -No greeting when I walked in despite the only person working sitting down right at the front. -I said “hey how ya doin!” with a huge smile, he looked right at me and didn’t respond lol. At first I thought he was another customer until he went to the register.
-Didn’t even say my total just took my order and walked away lol. If I wasn’t starving and didn’t feel like stopping anywhere else on my way back to Dallas I would have just left at that moment. I still wish I would have tho.
-$15 for a double cheeseburger (no fries or drink included) and a chocolate pie. Prices aren’t crazy but I can honestly say I wish I would’ve went...
