Flo’s Taiwan Cuisine — Restaurant in Gaithersburg

Whenever I longed for home, we would drive two hours to our favorite restaurant for a feast. Their dishes are a delightful reminder of home, especially the luscious stir-fried pork with tender bamboo shoots, bursting with flavor and nostalgia. The authentic Taiwanese meat soup, Ròu gēng tāng, warms the soul with its rich egg-drop broth and hearty ingredients, while the sakura shrimp sticky rice, Yīnghuā xiā yóu fàn, offers a savory treat that feels like a comforting hug. And, of course, there’s the oyster pancake—a beloved Taiwanese street food that never fails to satisfy.

The staff here embody warmth and generosity, always eager to make my experience memorable. Knowing I have a long drive ahead, they take extra care to pack my meals securely, often slipping in extra goodies for us to enjoy on the way home.

I agreed with other here that the service is very good. The cashier/waitress is very nice. The food is definitely American Chinese. Not Taiwanese.

We had the following dishes and they quite disappointing.

Taiwanese beef noodle soup. Flavor is lacking. Beef shank is thin and very tough. They also missing pickle cabbage. I had hundred bowls of this dish in Taiwan. This is the first time I have not finished my beef noodle soup.

Taiwanese popcorn chicken. The nuggets are small. I mean as they felt like left over and made into Taiwanese popcorn chicken. They also didn't even add basil. This dish as an entree usually come with minced pork over rice, pickle cabbage, and tea egg. All of these are missing. The rice is definitely offensive. It is the worst rice I ever had. It isn't Jasmin. It look and taste like one of those cheap long grain rice you get from Safeway.

Egg foo young. Where do I begin with this dish? They gave us American gravy. That's all you need to know.

My kids make fun of me for always being ISO "authentic," but Flo's Taiwan Cuisine is seriously the real deal!

Like some of the most authentic Asian restaurants in the area, Flo's is located in a strip mall (in Gaithersburg). We signed up for the set-menu Taiwanese banquet, a lavish spread that included Peking duck, poached whole fish, crab with sticky rice, and a variety of other delicious dishes. The taste was divine, the portions beyond generous, and the price a steal for what you get.

We shared the meal with several families, and the banquet option is perfect for a group celebration with family or friends. We've also ordered a la carte from Flo's in the past, and it has a huge selection of Taiwanese food that will transport you to Asia for a real culinary treat....
