It's a bit hard giving a review and separating my personal feelings from it, vs giving a completely objective review. I was a little disappointed by the external appearance when I arrived. It's decent and clean, perhaps it the result of driving past so many beautiful hotels on the way, which I'm sure cost way more, some perhaps the same. We got our room at a discounted price, but they show what they normally charge and if I was to pay that, I would expect a far nicer exterior appearance. Check-in was fast, though I noticed the pictures online made the motel lobby and breakfast area seem much larger. As for the decor and cleanliness, it was nice and very clean. The front desk person was great and followed up with us on a reported issue.
OK, reported issue..... After getting to our room we noticed it wasn't cooling properly. I went down to front desk and reported it. She said she would call maintenance, which had already left for the day, and offered me a fan, which I accepted. We then left for the beach, an evening on The Strand, and dinner. When we returned to our room and found it cooling just perfectly. We retired for the night and slept great on a very good mattress. So, this being said, why the bad review?
When we got to the room, besides the AC issue, this is where the feelings get bad. When I was making the reservation I saw they had jacuzzi tubs which were open to the room and the room in the picture was large, beautifully decorated, and had a cool layout. Based on this, I specifically chose this motel because my wife and I are celebrating 37 years of marriage. What we found was a jacuzzi in an ordinary enclosed bathroom, not open to the room, and the room was chopped up in its layout. While the total square footage was nice, it was divided up it to 4 areas counting the bathroom. You enter into a narrow hallway where the closet is, a long way from the bathroom and bedroom. So, it's not very convenient to dressing. You then turn the corner and you enter another narrow area, where there is barely enough room to roll your luggage past a table and 2 chairs. Then you come to the bathroom which is a decent size and was clean and where the jacuzzi tub was located. Then comes a crazy part, there is a sleeper/sofa all by itself facing a wall with just enough room to unfold, at least I assume. Then comes the actual room which was a typical modern room.
As I said, I was expecting to celebrate a very special time with my wife, in a special setting. Instead, it was pretty much an ordinary room, nothing like the one I saw online, which I had shown to my wife, and was expecting to see. Very disappointing!!! How do you undo this? Wish I...
Read moreWell let me start by saying two years ago, me and my family stayed stayed here and we absolutely LOVED IT. But unfortunately, coming back wasnât the same. I was traveling from my home in Dallas to come to Galveston for a few days. Made the reservations the night before for a KING SUITE. Got on the road and called the hotel to let them know I was going to have a late arrival (coming from Dallas) and they were fine with it. They knew I was paying cash, so about a hour later, while still on the road, I get a call from the hotel and they say the have to preautherize my card due to the later check in if not, my reservations will be canceled..... what ??? So then I was rushed to hurry to check in before my room wasnât available anymore, (the lady in the front worked with me tho) I wouldâve been fine with that if they wouldâve told me before I got on the road. So finally once I get there after a 5hr drive, I go to the front desk to check in and they have me reserved under a STANDARD KING (the gentleman who made my reservations the night before was a brand new employee). Ughhhh, so I proceed to explain to the lady that thatâs NOT what I booked and I have my two children with me, she suggested they sleep in bed with me. Or just to pay the difference from standard to suite. So I go to my truck to get extra cash to fix THEIR STAFFS MISTAKE. Then she comes outside and says theyâll put us in the suite for the same cost as the standard because it was their mistake. Thatâs one thing I did appreciate, they were apologetic and realized their fault. So once finally getting that out the way, we go upstairs to our room and open the window. And BAM, a moldy building RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY FACE (attached photos) so I call to see if they had another room, they did, but it was the same view so I was like whatever and just left it alone. After that, everything seemed pretty okay, hot breakfast, fast internet, Godzilla stomping on our heads the whole stay (literally sounded like the crew above us was going to fall thru the ceiling), someone trying to push my door open while it was cracked, it was lovely đ this room was almost $200 A NIGHT !!! Not worth it AT ALL !!!!!!!!! People just pay that extra to get extra. This was not worth it, very disappointed Best Western. But I guess this is what you should expect when you just got off vacation from Miami Beach with a ocean front view, so I was kinda owned a...
Read moreRecently my family and I were guests at your Best Western Plus Seawall Inn & Suites property in Galveston, Texas on August 8th, 2015. Being that we were a group of five, I was required to book two rooms. When I made the reservation I requested that we be on the first floor since my father-in-law is 92 years old and cannot do stairs to well. When we checked in, I was told our rooms were on the third floor and the single elevator in the building was out of service. When I told them I would not be having my father climbing stairs and reminded them that that was part of my original reservation, they found him and my son a room on the first floor. The sink was completely plugged up with the drain mechanism not operable. There was a distinct "wet" smell right outside in the hallway that turned out to be from a flooded room upstairs that was leaking through the ceiling. Our room on the third floor had the same smell. The air conditioning units drain line was plugged so the condensation was leaking out onto our carpet rather than being discharged outside our window. The muddy waters of the ocean were clearer than their pool. I was cut by a sharp glass sliver when walking back from the pool area. It came from a shattered glass framed certificate hung out by the pool, and apparently it was left hanging there even after it had been broken. When I brought this to the attention of the front desk manager, the best she could do for me was offer me a band-aid. I was totally shocked that the broken farm was still hanging out there the next morning. We were kept awake until well past 2am, having to listen to people continually talking, laughing, and running through the hall in and out in our neighboring rooms like they were living in a frat house. The next morning it seems we were not the only patrons who were complaining about the excessive noise. My wife over-heard at least three other guests complain to the front desk as they were checking out as well. The property advertised a full exercise room available 24-hours a day. Four out of the five pieces of exercise equipment were âOUT OF ORDERâ. For the $600 price I was forced to pay for two rooms to stay in a place that, in any other city would be lucky to get $100 a night, I was sold a bait and switch deal. The manager only had an apology for what he referenced as "my opinion" and said the rate stood. "Have a...
