Tia Juanita’s Fish Camp Grill is an experience—a perfect blend of mouthwatering food, quirky vibes, and the chaotic energy of a family get-together. Let’s start with the chips and salsa: they were so good I thought about asking for a to-go bucket. I could’ve stopped there and been happy, but then the giant peppers arrived. These bad boys were like spicy monuments to flavor—each one so big, I considered strapping it to the roof of my car as a souvenir.

The menu? A delicious fusion of Mexican food and the slightly pristine, dirty charm of Galveston’s beaches. You can almost taste the saltwater in the air, the kind that mixes with car oil found in the tide pools. And oh, the oysters! They were so fresh, I half-expected them to whisper secrets of the Gulf into my ear before I devoured them.

My father-in-law—our table’s rightful king—didn’t order a meal. But no worries; we pulled together like a team of culinary Robin Hoods, each donating elements of our plates to create a royal feast for him. It was like a potluck born out of desperation and deep family love. Long live the king!

Our group was so big we got split between tables, yelling across the walkway in front of the kitchen door like some kind of food-themed Shakespearean play. But no complaints here—the kitchen door provided a front-row seat to the magic. Watching the cooks work their wizardry was like dining with a live performance like we were at a Mexican hibachi grill.

The wait to be seated? Oh, it was long. But we made the most of it with intense dance battles out front that would’ve brought America’s Best Dance Crew to shame. When the staff finally called us in, we felt like victorious warriors entering a feast hall.

In conclusion, Tia Juanita’s is a glorious, slightly chaotic symphony of flavor, family, and fun. 15/10, would dance battle, donate food, and yell across...

This was my first time here at this place .We had a terrible first time experience here ... I want ever go back . From the beginning it was terrible from in the parking lot when family arrived to join us as they was walking in the restaurant there was a employee arguing and cussing on the phone to his wife over music or something so there small child had to see and hear all of that as walking in .. and when we went in to get a table for 7 people it wasn't busy at all there was a lot of big tables available but they told us we would haft to set at separate tables because they couldn't put a chair at the end of tables and they couldn't put tables together and we couldn't set at the bigger tables as it was for more than 7 people witch is crazy ... I told them if we couldn't set together we would just go somewhere else then they decided to let us put a chair at the end of a small table so we was really squished together at a small table for 7 people ... Then it took us over a hour to get our food and when we did finally get our food they didn't bring all of mine the waitress kept telling me it was coming but never did the waitress kept walking around look at our empty drink glasses but still didn't refill them ... After everyone at the table was almost finished with there meal. I still didn't have all of mine so my husband called the manager over told her what was going on and she told me twice the rest of my food was coming out if I still wanted it and that she took the meal off my receipt well everyone was done eating and I still didn't have all my food then she asked me again oh if you still want It I'll go get it well she told me that 2 times already and the waitress already told me that 30 mins before we got the manager so yea very terrible...

After being seated it took 10-15 minutes to even have our server come over and greet us(yes it was busy and we were trying to be understanding). After drink order was taken and we received drinks we had to stop the server and ask to order an appetizer. Drinks were a little watered down tasting. Got our appetizers and we're almost finished with them we were able to put in our dinner order. We had to ask for drink refills and got that but still had to wait almost 45 minutes and our food wasn't out yet. When we questioned that we asked the young female manager on duty and were told there were still 2 more orders ahead of ours. We put in our order with our server before one of the tables that was eating had even sat down. When we said that wasn't ok she said they were busy and we weren't the only ones in the restaurant. My husband said that's fine we will pay for our drinks we had, appetizers, and the side salads (that went with our meals) and we were leaving. She then told us "where else are you going to go? There isn't anything else open" We then paid for all that and we're leaving and the assistant manager came out and asked what was going on and was trying to ensure this never happened again. He was far more professional than the manager that showed no remorse. As we left my husband apologized to the young manger and told her to have a nice night and she just glared at him. All and all very disappointed. And total time there was an hour and a half and never received our meals. Paid $47 for 2 appetizers, 3 teas, 4 cokes, and 2 side salads

Update Owner has reached out and is trying to make it right. I do...

The food was great UNTIL it wasn’t. I got the ribeye and baked potato. Our meal was going great until I found a hair in my baked potato. Our waiter kindly took my plate and said he would take the meal off of our ticket. I naturally lost my appetite so was ok with watching the rest of my family finish their meal. All was well again until my girlfriend grabbed a French fry from my sister in law’s plate and dipped it into her ranch. She put the French fry in her mouth and chewed for a little while then noticed something wasn’t right. She opened her mouth and grabbed the most disgusting tangled up hair in a half chewed french fry. I didn’t want to make a scene so I asked our waiter to come in close as to not alarm any of the other customers around me eating. The manager comped my meal and my girlfriend’s meal but did nothing else. I told the manager that if he didn’t comp our entire table ($80 comp) that I was going to leave this review. He looked at me, smirked and said he couldn’t do anything about me leaving a bad review and walked off. Call me dramatic but a deal is a deal. The manager gets zero stars, the server gets 5 stars and the food gets 5 stars (except for the hairs).
