Caribbean Shack — Restaurant in Garden City

My boyfriend and I went in to visit last night around 7pm and sat at the bar. All of the seats were open except for the very last booth that had the bartender/server’s “man friend” sitting in it.

We ordered two alcoholic beverages. He got a rum runner and I ordered the rum punch. Both drinks were subpar. The drinks were $9 each for 1oz of alcohol in a 16oz glass. Literally tasted like juice. Talk about disappointing.

We both ordered the oxtail with macaroni and cheese and cabbage. He opted to get rice with his in addition to the other sides. The oxtail were not falling off the bone. They were very small with very little meat on them. The meat had a lot of gristle and fat mixed in. The gravy was decent and there was a lot of it. The macaroni was clearly reheated in the microwave before being put on my plate. It had zero flavor and I could not see or taste the cheese. The cabbage was cut up so fine like they were going to make coleslaw out of it. We spent a total of $88 for two entrees, two alcoholic drinks and a 15% tip. Needless to say we were not impressed at all. We will not be returning or recommending this place.

We both work in the food service industry and from the moment we sat down, we could see why we were the only people there. Our plastic utensils were dirty and we had to ask for new plastic wear. Why are we reusing plastic utensils ? When we needed refills the lady helping us was in the booth with her man friend. The tv at the bar had jeopardy playing. No real drinker is watching jeopardy at the bar. She never tried to upsell us on anything or make any suggestions. It was clear to us that this place won’t be open...

I had seen this place open for business for some time, and I finally had the chance to stop by. The place itself is set up extremely well, I just wish I had the time to enjoy dine in, but I will next time I show up.

The service there was AMAZING!🔥 Ms. Roberta made sure that I was well taken care of and walked me through all of the menu’s selection.

The food was IMMACULATE!🔥 Ms. Celeste knows how to throw down in the Kitchen!! Get the Oxtail Rasta Pasta with Bread Pudding with a cup of that Island Man Punch!! It’s delicious! I’m looking forward to seeing this restaurant thrive and grow in the community!

The prices are reasonable, but the quality of food is very poor. My husband and I both had the jerk chicken dinner, the chicken was very dry and not fresh looking, the cabbage was over bearing with vinegar and half cooked, rice and peas dry, mac & cheese was okay. The jerk chicken patties was mushy and the crust was undercook. In my husband tray there was a string of black hair, never seen the cook, but the cashier/waitress hair color is blondish/ brown. We are only a couple of customers but we will never return there again. May God bless them to do better and wear a hair net or some type of hair protection over their food. A...
