This is an update to my former review, which is below if you would like to read it. My family and I have been going to La Chalupa for 5 years now. When we first moved to the area a couple years ago we work so glad to find his place. It was our go-to for authentic Mexican food. Throughout the course of the past 5 years the quality of the restaurant went down quite a bit, however, we still came to eat some of their signature dishes. Unfortunately, today was the last time we will be dining at La Chalupa. My daughter ordered empanadas and was very excited. They came and even tough the carne assada filling was ok, the empanada dough tasted like fish, and was probably fried in the same oil they fry their fish. The rest of the food 🌮was ok, and the service questionable after we were presented with a SOUR 🍰 Tres leches cake🤢🤮🤮. Unfortunately, both my daughter and my husband each had a bite of the cake until the sour milk smell took over the table🤢🤮. I am not sure the other desserts had an expiration date on them, but this is specific cake did not. It was gross. Disgusting. We were offered to try another piece of cake, 🤯 but we were already grossed out. I do have to say... At least they did not charge us for the SOUR - definitely expired - cake. The ride home was interesting with husband feeling sick. Not sure if was the food he ate or if he was just grossed out by the unfortunate experience.

If you are looking for authentic Mexican food... Ta-da!!!!! This is the spot. We are from CA so we can be picky with our Mexican food. They have great variety...
Read moreIf you are a traveler passing through do not eat here. It is unlike any Mexican restaurant we hwve ewten across the country. We hwve had authentic in El Paso and actually have been to Mexico 3 times. How you gonna go to Mexican restaurant and not be able to order classic Margarita? We have frozen, he said. So I ordered double Sauza, limes and sugar. He charged me $2 for limes. Hilarious. My husband wanted crunchy tacos. He told him they can't do crunchy tacos. They have tacos sold separately. $3.50 Gringo way or Mexican way. Gringo was cheese and lettuce. Mexican was cilantro and onions. My husband said he would have 1 of both kinds. Told us they couldn't fix 2 tacos 2 different ways after he brought it out. He was upset he couldn't get what he ordered and they didn't tell us that, we got up to leave. Waiter said we still had to pay for what we got....not what we ordered; but what we received and sent back or the waiter would have to pay for it. How can you sell tacos individually but I can't order 1 each way? For one he needs to communicate. For 2 this is horrible management. We went because I wanted a Margarita. Although I had to make it myself at least I got what I wanted.
In response to owners reply. Tacos are listed on menu individually. You can get Gringo style or Mexicana. My husband ordered one of each. Seerver brought out 2 Gringo and said we can't do one of each they have to be the same. If this was a plate and you have to get 2 I would understand. However they are sold...
Read moreI have been frequenting another local Mexican restaurant both during my off time and my lunch breaks from work, always getting the torta and/or tacos. At the time, it was THE best I’d had and would not accept anyone else around could be better. A friend at work told me to give La Chalupa a chance. Fridays are for my wife and I to spend a few hours together for lunch and shopping, so we dropped in for an early lunch. The first option presented was their lunch buffet, and although enticing, I already knew what I wanted to try. Thankfully we got there before the regular lunch crowd, as it got pretty busy by the time our food arrived. This was clearly a popular spot that I had ignored for far too long. My choice of a Torta Asada (beef sandwich) and Taco al Pastor was beyond perfection, and nearly gut busting. The al pastor was cooked just right, and their mild green sauce put it over the top. The Torta had a toasted bun, melted cheese, and a lot of flavor. Neither needed the green sauce, but I can never help myself. La Chalupa easily put themselves at the top of the list of my favorite Torta in the Savannah area. Anyone who has driven Hwy 21 on a weekly basis in the Garden City area has seen this place and probably didn’t give it a second thought, like myself. This is called human error. Give them a try. They do fresh cooked, real al pastor on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and $1 al pastor tacos...
