The Good: Barbacoa was well cooked and had that distinct fire-pit smokey flavor. Salsa had good flavor as well and had some good heat behind it. The Bad: Everything else. Service felt like you were just a number, walked up, and the girl asked, "What do you want?. Seating is on these cheap, flimsy ikea chairs and is limited. You wait in a long line for some expensive, disappointing tacos. I tried one of each taco they had. Barbacoa, beef head, lamb head, lengua, and the sausage. The lamb and beef head tacos tasted gamey and had the eyeballs in it. Sausage looked like someone had rolled the torilla with their feet and had no flavor whatsoever. Some of the barbacoa tacos had rolls of skin in it, which, once taken out, left you with little meat. The barbacoa was dry, and the consome was literally motor oil, with some seasoning floating around. When added to the barbacoa, it didn't blend well with the meat. Seemed like I just made an oily taco. I didn't finish my tacos, which was a first. Out of the hundreds of taco places I have been to, being a Mexican taco connoisseur. Traveling all over the southern border, trying all types of tacos ranging from So Cal to Florida. I give the place a total of 2/10. I am disappointed in the service, food quality, and experience overall. Do NOT recommend. Save your money and try another taco spot. This is not it. Do not buy into the hype, I sure did...
Read moreWe were disappointed. Let me start by saying that walking up to El Grandpa Barbacoa is a unique experience. With the long line and all of the people sitting there eating, we were anticipating an incredible lunch. We ordered 2 pounds of Barbacoa, the large consume, and four jalapeno sausage tacos. The order was to-go and the lady who handed us the food insisted that there was enough lime, cilantro and onion in the bag - Like really insisted. The Barbacoa turned out bland and ~20% of it was not edible (fat and tendons). Additionally, the consume which was advertised as being the thing that made the tacos shine, was also bland. Watery even - Definitely not something you could dip your taco into and taste the flavor. Well, okay...if you stack any taco with onion, cilantro and lime and it will be good, but the lady's promise we had enough of that was met with more disappointment as one small to-go container had 5 slices of lime and less than a 1/4 cup of cilantro and onion in it. We'd ordered 20 tacos. This was a difficult experience because we met 'El Grandpa', loved the environment and were excited to enjoy amazing food. By the ratings, people love the place, but our experience was sub-par at best. Not...
Read moreY’all! What an experience! THIS place! You must go! You must try! What an amazing family! I got there just before 8am on Sunday. There was already about 20 people there, they had been invited into the trailer to watch them start taking the meat out of the cooker/pit, and they each received a fresh taco. There were also about 15 people in line. The family was busy getting everything set up and ready. They started selling promptly at 8. I waited about 30 minutes to place my order, to-go, and another 15 to receive my food. I got tacos- barbacoa, lengua, cabeza de lamb and beef, served on amazing tortillas, consomé, and a grapefruit jarrito. They set me up with bowls of their green and red salsa, onions, cilantro, and limes. THESE are the very best tacos! The consumé is outstanding! Both salsas are great! The family is so welcoming and kind! Their outdoor set up is so clean with plenty of seating! As I was leaving the line was much longer. Y’all, get there! It’s worth the wait! You are not going to find THIS quality anywhere else around here, unless of course, your Grandpa cooks like this too. El Grandpa, thank you for sharing your tradition with us! We will see...
