Great place to eat, locally owned, and good people to hang around for a good time. Ok folks: WHAT WE HAD WUZzzz.... Gyro n Fries Appetizer w/ Cheese & Tzatziki Sauce. The Teziki Sauce was very FRESH but had NO FLAVOR & was served very chilled. My FAVORITE sauce actually, just not this one. Perhaps it's better served not so cold, I think that makes sense. Never had this dish but I was sure it would be very delicious. However, it was not, and howwww I was ready for a hot meal. Not nasty, just tasteless, and the sauce was too chilled, and because of that sauce significantly brought the dish's temperature down. Whatever warmth the fries and Gyro meat had was taken by that very cold sauce. This definitely can be a very great dish. Just not so wise to have that sauce cold and tasteless Teziki Sauce. With a bit more garlic and or lemon or a pinch of salt... SOMETHING, it will be better. I did eat it however but I'd suggest sampling the sauce 1st next time to make a judgment personally. At least it was fresh tasting. Also, we had a slice of pizza with artichoke hearts and Italian Sausage, and whatever else the photo shows, I forgot. I wasn't prepared for the store-bought version of Italian sausage. That was a surprise to my taste buds more than the sight of it being different. I ABSOLUTELY DID NOT LIKE! It was like having Hilshire Farms Sausage on Pizza. No Way NO How! They apparently ran out and went to purchase those from a grocery store I was told. Pizza was good aside from that unpleasant surprise. We ordered a calzone. Husband always orders that. Well, I will just say no more. He ate his calzone. I'll let the image do the talking as for 1st time for the difference in appearance. With that being stated, check out our photos this visit. Read moreWhen we first moved out here, this was our favorite local spot. Over the last 6 months we have noticed the service has gotten worse and slower, while wait times on food have gotten longer. Today we waited 21 minutes on a single shot and a cocktail that never showed up. Server informed us that the bartender was overwhelmed. She had 4 patrons at bar seats and 3 tables(all small tables, no parties) . My girlfriend and I are both bartenders at places that have much larger bars and a MUCH higher volume of business so we understood she was steady but should have, at no point, been 'overwhelmed' I work at a bar that does 4 times the volume of this bar and if drinks take more than 6 minutes I have a manager immediately on my back about it. We always give the benefit of the doubt because we are in the biz but this was the 4th trip in a row we've had to lower our expectations due to variety of reasons and excuses which seem to be more of the norm than the exception. I took my kids there a month ago. We ordered everything at once and all of our food finally arrived an hour and 4 minutes later. Server was nice and repeatedly apologized tho so we still took care of them. I used to recommend this place to everyone who said they were gonna visit Tybee or Wilmington Island and were looking for food. We are done with Basil's for our part and won't make any future recommendations on their behalf. There are plenty of better places to dine between Wilmington and...
Read moreDecided to stop here on the way out from our weekend stay at Tybee Island. We placed our to-go order within minutes of arriving a little after 12:00 p.m. There were what seemed to be about 8-10 people working and about two 4-tops in the whole place and the yogurt/coffee side was deserted. The person who took our order was friendly. However, 3 dine-in parties arrived about 10 minutes after us and one of those parties received their drinks and appetizer order before we received our food. We ordered 2 wraps with pasta salad. On the yogurt side, the young man didn't know where the creamer was and asked repeatedly what kind of coffee my girlfriend wanted while he was trying to get the coffee machine to work. I was just about to tell them to cancel the order when I walked up to the counter and the counter person/waitress asked me if I was ready to pick up my order as if we had stepped out. We had clearly been sitting not 4 feet from the register the whole time. I asked her if the food had been ready this whole time and she politely said "No, I think it just came out" That was at 12:40 p.m. I'm a pretty patient person, but I don't think it takes 40 minutes to pull out 2 pre-made wrap sandwiches, ice cream scoop some prepped pasta salad into a couple of styrofoam containers. At least a quick check-in, "i'm sorry it's taking so long" would have been nice. We will definitely steer clear of this place when we...
