Chinese Food That's Average at Best & Lacking in Flavor. This was my first time eating at China Palace restaurant. I've had a lot of Chinese food in the United States over the last 40 years as well as Chinese food in other countries including China. (Note: Chinese food in America is geared towards the American public's taste so it's a little different from authentic Chinese food you get in China. This review is based on Chinese food restaurants in the United States.) That said China Palace Restaurant would not be my best experience eating Chinese food.
Pros: Broccoli with Garlic Sauce. (Note: I substituted the mixed vegetables in for this dish.) I was impressed with the quality of this dish because it had a lot of fresh vegetables mainly broccoli that was not overcooked and had good freshness and color. Accommodating hours. I went late on a Thursday evening and they were open until 11:30 p.m. This is great for the night owls.
Others: The Boneless Ribs. These ribs had some okay and some disappointing qualities. • Tenderness - To be fair I've had boneless ribs at other restaurants that were overcooked & tough and other places where the meat was tender and perfect. These boneless ribs were right in the middle. They came in nice slices (Good). There was a little bit of toughness to them but they weren't dried out. • Sauce - This is what was really disappointing about the boneless ribs. The typically red sauce (sometimes it's brown as it is in this restaurant) on Chinese BBQ is called Char Siu (particularly Cantonese BBQ pork). It's usually very flavorful and has a sweetness that's just right for pork. The sauce at this restaurant is a little bit underwhelming. It's not the worst I've had but it's not the best either. It lacks the sweetness and a touch of saltiness that I would expect for Chinese barbecue ribs.
Cons: Fried Wontons. The wontons had a very odd texture to them that wasn't crispy. Generally wontons, if they're fried, have a nice crisp texture. These wontons were not crispy at all and almost had a spongy kind of texture to them which took away from the whole experience.
Overall average fare. I was not terribly impressed with most of the items I ordered. I came here basically because they were the only nearby Chinese food place open at 11 p.m. Unfortunately the food was a bit of a letdown for me and I probably won't be back to...
Read moreThis was our first time trying China Palace and last! The food was very bland! No seasoning at all for $40 worth of food. I should have known when there was no distinct aroma when I picked up the bag! We had the spicy shrimp - just spicy heat, no taste! The shrimp fried rice was soooo plain with no taste and the chicken and shrimp habachi, as white and plain as it gets!! When I say DISAPPOINTED! YEAH, this seemed like a day where someone was thrown in the kitchen to prepare the meals and they totally forgot to put even a grain of taste in the food... No attempt whatsoever! The spicy shrimp were overcooked and saturated with hot sauce and bland red peppers. Never again friends. The only reason I gave 3 stars is because my food was hot and the customer service nice. I'm...
Read moreSo I haven't order from here in quite a while. The moment I do, I order chicken and broccoli white rice, for Me. And then I ordered Fried Rice, and 6 piece tai chilli wings for The Wife. They had the nerves to talk smack after I called and said there was a hair in My Food. I couldn't believe My ears, rude, arrogant, and unprofessional. What should, have taken place is some sort of resolve. Instead I get threatened, and told don't order from their restaurant anymore. Can't believe it in all THESE YEARS. Just can't believe it....
