I tried this place for the first time today. I order an iced latte breve literally every coffee shop I visit- which is a lot!
The young lady up front is very nice! My drink was watery as if milk was used instead of half and half- which is “breve.” I questioned the guy who made it to make sure it was half and half- it does get missed sometimes. No big deal! He showed me the brand they used which is Kroger’s half and half. I convinced him to make it again anyway, because I’ve had sooooo many baristas say they used half and half when they used milk accidentally. There’s an obvious color, texture, and taste difference. It’s generally made again correctly and everyone’s happy.
Rarely I run into someone like this guy who takes it as a personal affront that I question something. Again just make it again and it’s no big deal. It wasn’t busy or anything, so I don’t understand the attitude.
The second one was terrible as well, so I just asked for my money back to make it easier on everyone. He absolutely was not going to let that happen. He offered a tea which is cheaper than the large latte. I took it, but still asked for my difference back. He rolled his eyes- actually rolled his eyes. A grown man rolling his eyes for someone asking to get their hard earned money back when they could not deliver an acceptable product…
I had enough and told him just to keep it since he obviously had an issue with it. I’m too busy to deal with an adolescent adult.
Needless to say, I will not be back and I will 100% steer my espresso loving friends away.
I will say, though, that they do offer an eggwich which is an awesome choice for any low sugar, low carb people out there. It’s rare to find anything but pastries in coffee shops. Unfortunately, it’s not enough to make me want...
Read moreThe drink was a bit watery as if it was prepared with coffee rather than espresso (February 4th, 4pm). The barista was quite odd; she worked really hard to avoid customer engagement and contact; it made the air heavy. A gentleman asked if she had asked him anything. She simply said, 'no.' That was fine; perhaps, she they'd established some nonverbal communication that explained her brevity. He then told her to have a "good one;" she did not respond at all and was quite deadpan in expression. He even paused for a response; awkward. She wiped a table within touching distance of me bending as I sat; typically eye contact kind of forces an acknowledgement but she stared and froze in place... like freeze response. Weird. She seems profoundly unhappy, and that's okay; but, it shouldn't bleed over into atmosphere and customer service. Management, tell staff who may not have life experience that they don't have to coddle or fawn over customers, but at the very least - it is inappropriate to express hostility nonverbally. No one believes that you're there to serve just because you say 'hello' or 'what can i get for you?' It's not a sign of weakness. Just be polite, slightly engaging, even if they/you don't want to be there. It's none of the customers business how they feel. Work on that stuff when...

I've been coming to these people for more than 20 years. They are fiercely independent and have engrained themselves into the community. They have study regulars who love this place. It feels more welcoming and much less corporate than the big chains.
I'm a complete coffee nut, I spoke to the owner and managers at length about their coffee. They pull a longer, more syrupy shot that is smooth without getting bitter. Typically, I only drink espresso and this is a great choice.
I have a multitude of other drinks. They make delicious little cortadas and the usual fare of lattes, cappuccinos and drip brews. Additionally, they have sodas and teas.
They have a decent pastry case, that seems to be always changing. They seem to focus on sourcing locally.
At times, they have offered some gluten-free and dairy-free options, but they keep shifting. At a point, they had delicious gluten-free, individually wrapped brownies. I fell in love with them, and they discontinued them. Then I fell in love with the dark chocolate covered espresso beans. They quit carrying those as well. I love their roasting and used to buy the Mexican blend. They were very inconsistent with keeping it in stock. Sigh.
On the other hand, the espresso is dependably great. The employees are genuine...
