I stopped in at Mamaās Boy at The Falls in Oconee County to grab a bite to eat on my way home. I was pretty hungry and itās been a long time since I went out to eat so I decided what the heck. I didnāt want to go to Waffle House or someplace like that that. They donāt really have any healthy options. So I got out my phone and look for restaurants near me. I shouldāve known that Mamaās Boy was the closest place that served a good breakfast. So thatās where I went. I got there early before 8 oāclock and was happy to see that it wasnāt too crowded. There were several people already waiting but I got served pretty quickly. I did notice when I got ready to leave that they were much busier. There were probably 20 people outside the door waiting for a table. I guess i got there at just the right time. I chose a table outside so I could be in the sunshine, but when I got out there it was pretty chilly. Luckily within a few minutes the sun popped up over the trees, hit me in the back and I was toasty warm. I ordered the vegetable scrambler with cheese grits, sourdough toast and coffee. I didnāt eat much of the toast; Iām not really a bread person anyway. It was OK. The veggie scrambler was to die for (does anyone still say that?) The onions were crunchy but well cooked. They had that little white crumbly cheese on top; I have no idea what that is but itās yummy. The cheese grits⦠mmmmm, donāt get me started! They were so good but I love cheese grits anyway so they would have to be pretty bad for me not to love love love them. The coffee was really good too - hot, fresh and just strong enough for me. They serve real half-and-half in a little pitcher. Too cute!! They also have bamboo straws. I love straws but I donāt want to use plastic ones. I have what I call a drinking problem; whenever I drink something out of a glass I managed to dribble (pour) it down my front. They had this weird little thing sitting on the table. It was shaped like a vase with a little flexible propeller on top. I asked the server about it. She said she had no idea and Iām like⦠You work here!! How do you not know what this is? Anyway I picked it up and found a switch on the bottom. When I turned it on the little propeller started spinning around. I set the thing on the table and watched it spin. Honestly, it looked pretty silly. I decided it was a fly runner-offer. Iāve never seen one of those before but I thought it was a great idea. I included a video of it with this review. Mamaās Boy is one of my favorite restaurants and I highly recommend everything they serve. You wonāt be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been coming to this restaurant for about 2 years. In fact, I'm in and out of there almost every other day when I am in Georgia. The problem is, three times they have made an error but I just can't let it go a fourth time. I I am very fond of the tofu stir fry, and I always order it without broccoli. The first time the error was made, broccoli was included with the meal, I was in a hurry so I just didn't send it back I didn't eat it but I didn't send it back. The second time, I haven't been in there in about a month and the waiter brought it over and actually remembered that I didn't eat the Ibroccoli, and said he would have them remake it. He brought it back to me in less than 5 minutes, and I ate most of it until I discovered a broccoli floret, and I spent about 15 minutes throwing up by where the new building was constructed. The third time, which was yesterday, I ordered two of this tofu stir fry which they knew were both for me, and I ordered them both without broccoli. But for some reason, they brought me one without broccoli and one with broccoli. the waitress also remember that I didn't eat the tofu stir fry with broccoli so it didn't make sense to her. She said that they could remake it.. unfortunately, even though they were gone for about 10 to 15 minutes which was way longer than the time that the waiter brought me the stir fry I mentioned above, so I thought that they really were remaking it. They gave it to me I'd already eaten the first one that didn't have the broccoli in it, and then when I started eating the second one it actually tasted really bad kind of like a rotting rubber tire. Which is how I think broccoli tastes. I ate about four bites of it, and then just started raking through the plate and again there was a piece of broccoli floret in it, so I don't think that they ever remade it at all, and must have just picked the broccoli out. I will really miss this restaurant, and I'd actually drafted a five-star review despite those first two errors, but now I feel like because the same error has been made consistently, I just don't want to come back to this restaurant. It was very good food, but I feel like they tricked me into thinking that they remade it when they didn't. So two stars for them always being polite but again I value not being tricked over having a good place to go in the morning to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI came here at lunchtime today with my boyfriend. It was a game weekend, so there was understandably a wait. We decided to do takeout, and were told it would take 20-30 minutes to get our food. We said fine, and (as instructed) waited outside for our name to be called to come grab the food. After 45 minutes, I walked inside to check on it. I stood at the takeout counter for 5-10 minutes as a bigger guy with a beard who was doing takeout orders chatted with friends sitting at the tabletop. He completely ignored me--did not even look in my direction as I stood there waiting. After a while, another server walked up to me and asked if I needed help. I said yes, I was looking for to-go food that we had now ordered almost an hour ago. He checked on it for me, and it had been sitting behind the counter the whole time I was in there. I was annoyed, but we politely took our food and left. It wasn't until I got home and opened up the container that I discovered it was ice cold. The eggs and grits were slimy and congealed--they had clearly been sitting for a long time. We tried our best to microwave the food, but it was barely edible. I then tried to call the restaurant to let them know what happened. No one answered, so I left a voicemail. 30-45 secs into the voicemail, a female voice picked up the phone line and said "STOP COMPLAINING" into the receiver, then hung up on me. I have literally never been treated this way by a restaurant in my life, and will never go here again. I also sent out a message to a group of 30+ school friends telling them to spread the word. The old Mama's Boy is awesome, but this place does a disservice to their...
