Food was 5 stars, service also 5 stars, pricing of their BBQ 5 stars, it's the cost of their sides that makes this a 4 star review.
By far the best BBQ joint in town. We love NC style BBQ and this is the closest we can get to it in Georgia. We got the brisket and pulled pork. Starting with the brisket- it reminded me of the brisket we had in Dallas, TX. It was tasty on its own, without sauce, but then you add one of their numerous sauces and it blows you away!! It was tender, not chewy like most places around here. And the pulled pork, almost as good as when my husband makes it! That said, it's to die for! So good without sauce, but just like the brisket, their sauces compliment it so well!! Moving on to their sides, all were delicious! We got fries, mac n cheese, beans, and Brunswick stew. We thought the fries would be ordinary crinkle cut, NOPE! They weren't ordinary and they were delicious!! The mac n cheese, unique, spiral noodles with a tasty, cheesy sauce, with a kick of course! Beans delicious! And Brunswick stew, my husband said it was the best he's ever had!
On to my only negative on this review, pricing of the sides - for the price you pay, you'd think you'd get more than what you do. We got smalls of everything and it was like one scoop of everything. So for the mac n cheese, it was like 6 noodles. The fries- that was the perfect portion and the only exception to this. But given we paid $2.50 for a small scoop of Brunswick stew, and 2.50 for 6 noodles of mac n cheese, that was super disappointing especially because they were so good!
The staff, very kind, great customer service and very attentive. The cashier saw me packing up some sauces and brought over a sharpie so when we got home we'd know what we got.
So that said, my only recommendation to the owner would be to either increase the portions of the sides without increasing the price OR lower the prices of the sides to truly reflect the amount of food you are getting.
All of this being said, we are ordering a whole bunch of pork and brisket for our family gathering tonight to watch UNC take on Gonzaga!!! And possibly one side, due to...
Read moreUpdate #2 (6 months after opening): Reduced review to three stars. Service is consistently very slow. The last two times I have been here it took over 15 minutes to get a turkey sandwich with no sides. All they have to do is cut the turkey and put it on some bread. This was when it was not busy at all. There was one person that ordered something ahead of me. You can watch the kitchen and they will prepare one order and stand there waiting for the side that is being fried to finish before they do anything else. They don't seem to work in parallel at all. If one order takes a while because they had to drop a side to fry, you have to wait for that to finish before they even start on your order. They would be much more efficient if they did things in parallel.
They have a big variety of sauces, but the labels are hand written in ink that gets dissolved by the sauce and cleaning so you can't read them. The sauce bottles are also very sticky and dirty on the outside.
Staff is still friendly and courteous.
Update #1 (a couple of weeks after opening): I stopped here to grab a quick to-go lunch for my wife and myself. She ordered chicken salad plate which she thought was very good. I picked up the smoked turkey plate which was excellent. The turkey was nicely cooked and had a really nice flavor. The portion size was generous as well. I got beans and mac & cheese for the sides. The beans were unique and quite tasty. The mac & cheese was decent, but definitely not the best I've had.
Looks promising. I have been watching for months waiting for this place to open. I stopped by today since the open sign was on to see if they had menus. They were being printed today, but have the full menu online on their website. They offered me a sample, so I had a bite of the pulled pork and of the peach cobbler. Both were good. They have a number of various BBQ sauces (see photo). The staff was friendly and courteous. I'll post an updated review once I've had a...
Read moreI'm really upset to leave this review. I have been coming to Smitty's since the day they opened. I live right across the street and loved that a BBQ place opened up.
At first everything was great. The sides were to die for and all of their meats were on point. I used to eat here so much my wife would get mad at me just for suggesting it.
I came in so much I knew a lot of the staff by name and they knew me. However somewhere along the line things went down hill.
They started leaving off entire items from my orders. The broccoli and everything started to be cooked differently with different seasonings and flavors. It was like the fired the head cook and hired in some minimum wagers.
Honestly the quality control went down hill. After 3 visits, in a row, where their meat was to dry or chewy to eat or their broccoli just tasted bad we stopped coming.
After a few months I decided to give it another try and this time I did Uber Eats. I ordered $15+ in BBQ Pork with 3 BBQ Sauces.
The food arrives with no sauce. I don't have sauce either. So I called and complained and the first lady blamed it on the Uber Driver and said it's their requirement to grab my sauce and they don't actually pack any.
So I explained my frustrations and how I wont be coming back. They then had the nerve to call me back and tell me they did pack sauce and I'm just to stupid to find it.
I'm not making this up. They called back and said they packed my sauce and to look in a different bag. Which I confirmed was not there. She proceeded to tell me it is...
Needless to say I wont be coming back here again. My family will eat elsewhere from now on.
If you're in the neighborhood for good BBQ you can drive right past Smittys to to the BBQ Food Truck further down Canton Road just...
