Why have we waited so long to visit this restaurant? We have lived in this area for 36 years and remember when unWine'd first opened. Although we eat out often, we have never tried it But I selected it as my restaurant of choice for my birthday. And now we have another restaurant to add to our dining out repertoire.
We started with a wine flight for my wife - she broke her dry January pledge for one night and I started with a draft beer that I can't recall the name of - but I wasn't disappointed. I am not normally a pimento cheese fan, but I enjoyed the unWine'd's version so much that I think I'd order it again. My wife ordered the Seared Pork Loin and she thought it was very good. I enjoy a good Chicken Pot Pie and thought I'd give the unWine'd version a try. I did like it but perhaps I've been spoiled by the gourmet quality of Paul's Pot Pies on the square (although you have to cook it yourself). We had the bread pudding for dessert. It wasn't quite at the New Orleans level but it was good. We like coffee with desert and although the coffee offered was a Keurig pod variety, it was still good. Overall, they have a very good wine selection and some good choices for a brew for beer drinkers like me. The menu selections provide enough variety to suit different palates. There is a shareable section if you want to sample different items. And some normal sized main entrees for those who want to keep it to themselves! :) We enjoyed our experience and will be returning soon.

The wine menu is always interesting and robustly annotated and the staff is extremely helpful in selecting the right flavor profile for you. I love the cruet/glass service both from a value perspective and for how it makes tasting and sharing so easy.
The aspect that I think is most underrated, however, is the food service.
The kitchen serves tapas-style portions, which is great for trying a few things, and the quality of the execution is on par or better than most any tapas restaurant in the metro area.
The menu leans into the savory flavors, including a bacon flight that includes peanut butter and jalapeno relish for dipping. It is exactly as decadent as it sounds like it would be.
My wife and I ordered the chef's sampler dish last night, which happened to be Japanese themed, with appetizer sample portions paired with Japanese whiskeys. The pairings were excellent, but my favorite was probably the wagyu beef patty dressed with eel sauce on red cabbage paired with a Japanese take on bourbon. The whiskey really accented the beef and helped the wagyu flavor shine. At $35, we felt the value more than hit the mark.
The acoustics of the restaurant are such that it can get a little loud when it's a full house, but it's not bad enough to take away from the atmosphere. The restaurant is well decorated and comfortable.
I think it's a perfect date-night place or a spot to get together...
Read moreI love the creativity of the changing weekly features, especially the wine/cocktail flight with 4 drinks and mini food pairings that change on a weekly basis. It’s one of my top 10 fun and affordable food and beverage experiences in the city, at under $50 per person. Just be aware that if one person gets the pairing flight and the rest order from the regular menu, everyone else may be done with their entire meal before the flight arrives. This has happened to us before. Now we either do it where the whole table gets the flight or nobody does, because it simply doesn’t work from a timing perspective otherwise.
Some of the other options are a bit spendy when you add everything up, but the bacon flight is pretty fun! The steak cuts are hit-or-miss; sometimes they are tender but they are often very chewy, especially in the tasting portions. I’m a bit of a steak snob and they don’t really do it for me, but it’s ok. The service is also all over the place. I’m much more of a food person and don’t care if it takes an hour to get our to-go dessert, but some people might. It gets really busy and crowded...
