We were there yesterday on May 12 for Motherโs Day. There were five of us. Three had the prime rib the king cut. I had the walleye as did our other diner. Brussels sprouts were not cooked all the way through so they tasted horrible. The piece of walleye was very, very small, but the service was horrible. We were seated outside, which was fine and Sierra was our server, but we may be saw her once if twice. She never checked on us never offered to fill our drinks and then another table were letting their kids run all over the place Right next to our table where we were sitting, the kids were running all over. The people were sitting at the other end of the patio. We couldnโt have a conversation because these kids were so loud and we asked our server when she did show up the second time if she could please talk to them and she never did, and she never came back to our table. Then the kids were running around on the green. And the place wasnโt that busy at all. Folks at our table and the table near us were begging for water refills โฆ if you needed anything you had to walk up to the bar to get it because there was no server in sight. Had to even ask the bartender to print us a check so we could pay because the servers never came back out. We arrived at about 6:50 and were told there was an hour wait. We were seated by 7:50 as anticipated and by 8:30 the entire restaurant had been cleared out except for three tables. Some of the food was spic for the kids, but getting even a single refill was impossible. Staff were so busy trying to clean up for the night (despite the closing time being listed as 9PM) that we were treated far more as an inconvenience to their Saturday night plans than actual customers. We tried the potato skins that they call Slate skins. I wouldn't recommend them because they were overcooked with no flavor. We received three and only ate two. It came with a very small amount of sour cream to spread on it. We ordered the carrot cake to share and it was very good. I would definitely order this again. We told our waiter that the carrot cake was great, but the piece was so tiny. I took a picture of it to share. He just said, "Yeah, but it's sugar-free. " What kind of response was that?
The actual picture of the carrot cake looks much larger than it really was. The picture also makes our cosmo glasses look large.
I was kind and gave Slate Bistro four stars for the yummy carrot cake and the drinks that were good. The service was average, but I gave him 4 stars, too. The restaurant and ๐ธ bar area is nice.
