We had a delightful evening at Conway's House of Jazz. Everyone, from the owners to the servers and bartender, was incredibly kind & welcoming and provided truly excellent customer service. Rodrigo, our server, was particularly noteworthy and his service was exceptional. We enjoyed speaking with the owners, Barb & Jim, and examining all the memorbilia used in the decor. It was very charming.
The food was quite delicious. There were three of us and we each ordered something different so as to try more dishes. We had the ribeye with au gratin potatoes, the jambalaya with coleslaw on the side, & the house-specialty, meatloaf. The meatloaf was amazing! Despite not being a fan of meatloaf generally, my daughter devoured it! She nearly wiped the plate clean. The steak was perfectly seasoned, although a bit more on the medium well side rather the medium rare we'd requested and the fresh, mixed vegetables were noteworthy for their excellent taste. In all fairness, the jambalaya, although tasty and very good, was just that - very good without quite reaching exceptionality - which was perfectly fine. The au gratin potatoes, however, were truly outstanding! The food (& atmosphere) were so good, in fact, that we decided to further indulge ourselves & order one of each of the desserts. (Who can resist something called The Ultimate Chocolate Decadence?!) Each was delightful and completely lived up to its name & menu description.
Before moving on to the music, which was superb, I must take a moment to mention the excellent drinks we had as well. As I recall, they ranged from The Hurricane (a rum-based cocktail) to a lovely red blend wine to the delicious Blue Mary cocktail (with gin & champagne, I believe) to an excellent after-dinner Irish coffee. We were also quite impressed with the bartender's knowledge from an overheard bit of advice to another customer.
So, on to the band. Live music began at 7pm. (Before that, we were able to select our choice of songs fro the complimentary jukebox. Such fun!) When we there, we were privileged to hear the Ron Steen Trio play. Piano, bass, & drums - they were fantastic! Some members of the audience even got up to dance. Midway thru their first set, they also had a young man sit in on the bass, who did a wonderful job!
The whole evening was just delightful and we are already telling our friends and making...

Read moreYes, Virgina, there is amzing Jazz in Clackamas County. This gem has been here for 8 months, hiding in an aging strip mall across from Fred Meyer. But don't let the location fool you.
Conway has an inviting and stylish atmosphere. You will likely be greeted by one of the Conways, who show pride in what they have curated, and who welcome you in like an old friend, even if you've just met.
The service is spectacular (thank you Rodrigo), and they somehow manage to meet your dining needs without taking away from the sultry, swinging Jazz performers.
The real star of the show is the spectacular food. I had the most delicious meatloaf with flavorful vegetables. TIP: ask for the chef made BBQ sauces. You won't regret it.
Just try this place already.
Note: if you are here during the show and are in the "music seating", there is a $9 cover charge per person. That seems a little weird charging those getting dinners, but I suppose that is how they pay...
