I ordered 2 - TWO - sweet and sour chicken meals. We received the meat for 2 meals ( more on the meat, momentarily), ONE averaged sized box of white rice (2 meals?), NO lo mein noodles. The cost was $23.00. We also paid for two large containers of sweet and sour sauce: these were hot and, when my wife picked hers up, the bottom broke; it burned her hand and made a sticky, pink pool on our kitchen counter. When I carefully TOUCHED the lid, of the second container, it split, near the edge. Carefully, like being a bomb tech, I shared the one remaining sauce between my wife and I. The sauce was SWEET (and sour). It didn't highlight the meal, it overwhelmed whatever real taste it might have had. When I ate the meat, along with the small amount of rice (remember, one box of rice, two meals), the mystery meat was tough and overcooked. I am not a gourmet: I have enjoyed Vietnam-era C rations, in the Marine Corps. But one-third, or more, of the bites of meat, I had to spit out. The taste of SWEET (and sour) sauce had worn off, and I was struggling to chew stringy, tough, jerked meat. Maybe it was chicken, but I couldn't be sure what it was. We have eaten at Ming & Gee's many times, over the years, but this will be the last. The area is slowly growing rougher: perhaps their clientele is declining and they've had to cut corners, for economic reasons. It will be without us, as customers, and I am sad that Ming & Gee's is not what it once was: a good...
Read moreAfter reading other reviews of Ming-Gee, I decided to try them out. With great hope, I ordered the sweet and sour pork and since I really like fried rice I got a double of fried rice instead of half fried rice half lo mein noodles. At first I was going to be disappointed in the pork, thinking I'd only been given 6 or so good pieces. While a couple of pieces were inedible, there was so much in the order it made up for this lack. Each time I thought I'd eaten the last one, there was another. They did not overburden with the veggies as so many do. However, I would have to say I was so totally disappointed in the fried rice. It basically had no flavor and I had to put so much soy sauce on it that's all I could taste. Overall, I would say it was good. I will give them another chance before I make a final decision, but this is why I didn't give them a rating of excellent. I will say, however, I usually don't care for egg rolls and the one that came with the combo was super delicious. That is something I certainly...
Read moreI've been in Phoenix for almost 30 years, and somehow, I only just found Ming Gee! This place is such a hidden gem. They've got a small dim sum menu--not a ton of options, but hey, it's better than nothing, and they were actually pretty tasty.
If you're looking for a fancy spot with trendy decor, Ming Gee isn't it. But if what you want is just good, authentic Chinese food, you'll be happy here. Every dish we tried was delicious, and I'm so glad I finally gave it a shot. It's surprising to find this kind of quality Chinese food over on the west side--just judging by the outside, you'd never expect it.
Plus, I went all out and ordered a roasted pig for Thanksgiving, so stay tuned if you're curious about how that turns out with Ming Gee's touch!
Updated: OMG! My family and friends absolutely loved the roasted pig! It was such a fun and delicious experience! Who needs turkey when you have a 60-pound roasted pig for...
