This is a small, hard to notice, establishment near the intersection of 51st Avenue and Northern Avenue. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the clean interior is tastefully decorated and the tables are neatly set with plates, forks, and cloth napkins. On each wooden, glass-topped table is a small pot of spicy Thai soy sauce; a nice touch that we really appreciated.
The server was very courteous and helpful with our questions. She even offered to help us go through the menu. The menu is quite extensive, featuring many signature Thai favorites from soups to seafood to salads to rice and curry.
In order to sample a range of the Thai flavors that Siam offers, we chose an appetizer, a noodle dish, and an entree. For our appetizer, we went with the fried wontons, which were served with a sweet and spicy sauce that was very good. These pork and vegetable stuffed wontons were quite different from others that I've had in the past. Instead of the stuffed wonton being folded over from corner to corner and crimped closed before frying, these were very tightly rolled which doesn't allow much room for the pork and vegetables. While the flavor and texture was good, we felt that the wontons were a bit underwhelming.
The noodle dish we decided on was Pad See Yew, which is a fried rice noodle with broccoli, bean sprouts, and egg in a soy sauce. This dish is served with your choice of meat and we chose the beef. We were very impressed with the Pad See Yew. The thin noodles were fried to perfection and along with the vegetables and sauce provided a very pleasant layering of flavors. The beef was flavorful and quite juicy, but not under done and complimented the crisp vegetables and noodles nicely. We appreciated that no one ingredient was more prominent than another; there were equal amounts of each resulting in a very balanced dish. We highly recommend the Pad See Yew; this dish is one we'll order again!
All the entrees at Siam are served with a bowl of steamed rice and our entree choice was the Siam Duck. The dish consists of a generous amount of mixed vegetables and boneless roasted duck meat in a light, gravy-like sauce that was delicious. Some pieces of the duck were a bit fatty, but was otherwise very good. The vegetables, which included onions, mushrooms, cauliflower, and snow peas, were cooked to the perfect tenderness; not too crunchy, but not overcooked. The flavorful sauce in this dish kept us coming back for more even after our appetites had been satisfied. The Siam Duck is a must-try entree!
We sampled each of the dishes with and without the spicy Thai soy sauce. The sauce has great flavor and can really heat up your dish! A word of caution if you don't like it really hot: the spice from this sauce does linger in your mouth and builds with each bite, so use sparingly at first.
As you may or may not know, Thai cuisine is known for its spicy dishes. Siam has quite a selection of such dishes, but they allow you to order them at the spice level you are comfortable with. You can order them with no spice, mild, medium, hot, or Thai hot. Our server described Thai hot as essentially "pure pepper" so order that at your own risk!
If you have never tried Thai cuisine, we strongly urge you to give Siam a try; we think you'll enjoy it. If you have sampled Thai cuisine before, we still recommend Siam! The large menu will most likely offer a dish for...
Read moreWe decided to dine in for my mom's birthday celebration. Our order consisted of the Siamese Plate, Pad Thai, Tom Yum hotpot, Fried Rice with Thai basil, and Yellow Curry with Chicken.
The Siamese Plate was a delightful assortment of appetizers, including Thai Toast, Chicken Satay, wontons, and fried tofu. The Chicken Satay stood out with its flavorful and tender meat. All the items on the plate were delicious.
Moving on to the Pad Thai, I usually love its sauce, but this time the noodles were oddly mushy. Nevertheless, the dish managed to be delicious despite this small flaw.
The Fried Rice was my absolute favorite! There was nothing to complain about it. It was simply perfect.
As for the Tom Yum soup, it was spicy and bursting with flavors. However, I personally would have preferred a lighter hand with the seasoning, as the lime leaves, lemongrass, and galangal were a bit overwhelming. We ended up setting aside a significant portion of the seasoning.
The Yellow Curry was slightly saltier than I prefer, but it still had an incredible flavor that I enjoyed.
Unfortunately, despite the absolutely delicious food, the service was quite disappointing. There were two waitresses in the restaurant when we dined in, and they seemed extremely distracted, constantly engrossed in their phones. Moreover, when our server brought out the soup, she forgot to provide us with bowls and spoons. To make matters worse, she then sat down and started using her phone. We had to request the utensils from the other waitress, who gave us an annoyed look as if we were bothering them. Throughout our meal, the waitresses seldom checked on us, always absorbed in their phones. It got to the point where my husband had to approach them to place our food order. Overall, this dining experience would have been pleasant if the service had been decent. We may consider returning in the future, but not until they have had time to improve...
Read moreMy first experience was super delicious. Pineapple Fried Rice $12.95+. With 6 big shrimps and lots of tasty veggies. Portion size can be shared by 2 people. I could not wait to try it again and bring my friends. 2nd visit, still very good, portion size the same but we were given only 2 shrimp??? Being that the 6 big shrimp was one of my bragging points of the meal. All 4 of us were very sad. I called Siam and was told only 2 shrimp come with that meal. Well okay, I took the 4 extra shrimp as a yummy mistake on there part. Anyway, $13+ was a little too far to drive for 2 shrimp and a lot of yummy rice. There's delicious rice and veggies in my own neighborhood. 3rd visit, many months go by. Me and my folks are in the area. I remembered the delicious food. I convinced everyone this was the place. I called in my Pineapple Fried Rice order, still with only 2 shrimp. I ordered 4 more shrimp so we could at least all get one. It was $1 extra per shrimp. WOW! I let them add it. I paid almost $20 for a now much smaller container. Which was now full of big bell peppers and onions, little rice and pineapple and by no means was the same delicious experience as my first one. Even the shrimp tasted rushed and a little soggy. My 4 pieces of flat hard chicken? Wasn't even chewable. I won't go back. My feelings are too hurt. I feel I wasted my money on a meal that should now cost $6 maybe $8 with the 4 shrimp minimum. I ate there March 8th 2018. I hope the other food has not dropped in quality and taste. Overall it is a beautiful, pleasant, slightly over priced restaurant with friendly...
