I had been wanting to try The Tipsy for months as the west valley is really missing a good wine bar. Hubby and I went with another couple on a Wednesday night at 6pm. Like most restaurants in Arizona the Tipsy is located in a strip mall but we were pleasantly surprised at the nice décor with pretty chandeliers though the openness did feel a little cool and they might try to lower the lighting to create a more intimate feeling and escape the 'we are located next to a Dairy Queen' feel. The menu offered not only wine but cocktails so we first ordered martinis and then wine for our second drink. The martinis were good but not an overly generous pour for $14. Their signature martini was on happy hour price for only $10 but it would have been nice on a slow mid-week to have more of the cocktails or wines on happy hour prices. We also ordered bruschetta boards which were very disappointing. It was nothing more then a very small piece of toast with jam and a few crumbles of topping. I suggest the owners visit Postinos to understand how to prepare bruschetta especially as Postino has now communicated they are opening in the west valley. The rest of the food was salads and sandwiches were average. The server did not suggest anything off the menu or seem particularly friendly and at one point a man stopped by our table who I assume might have been the manager but he only awkwardly said hello. I truly wanted to love The Tipsy and if you live close by I would give it a try as they will hopefully improve but for us living in north Peoria it was not worth the 30...
Read moreA couple of friends and I all ordered one of their specialty drinks, which had tequila and coconut in it. My friend has ordered this drink multiple times and said it was very good. After taking the first sip, all of us agreed that it was way too sugary to drink and something was off about the drinks. I kindly asked the older waitress if there was anything we can do about the drinks since it was not drinkable. The waitress response was to “plug our noses and drink it.” This resorted in my friends and I have to dilute the drinks with our water for it to even be edible. The waitress stopped by our table multiple times and commented about how it seems like we were struggling to drink the cocktails, but refused to do annything about it.
After getting no help from the waitress, I brought the drink up to the bar to ask if it could be remade. The owner began to argue with me and said that it’s supposed to be a sugary drink. I kindly asked him if I could order a margarita instead. He began to then question me if I’ve had a margarita before because they are sugary. I found this quite offensive considering I had just drank a margarita at dinner before arriving here. After now an hour of trying to get a drink remade, the owner finally agreed.
Considering the $14 price for each drink and the amount of hurdles it took to simply have a new drink remade, my friends and I will not be returning. It is apparent they care more about the money they lost remaking the drink than making sure their...
Read moreTHANK YOU. Mahalo plenty. Merci! This area has been longing for an establishment of this artistical and culinary genre for decades.
Wine! So many varietals and vintages, and stored with care. So wonderful to taste a cool red blend that was stored in the neighborhood of 55 degrees.
On a Yelp review, a kind young lady attempted to disparage this new establishment, because a server likened Preseco from italy, to sparkling wine from France. Hey, now, simmer down? Regional semantics, with one pour having a wee bit more sugar content to the other.
The appetizer menu looked to hold many creative selections, but when It saw a cheese plate opportunity, I had to leap.I will be sure to sample more delights upon my return.
And again, as per the aforementioned yelp reviews of THE TIPSY... In contrast to the chain burger, beer and Taco family establishments...please do enjoy this establishment's ambiance, comfort and unique feel.
When possible, in the first year of an opening...do try to surround yourself with intrigue and adventure when sampling a new establishment. And hope to forgive the minor growing pains via service and kitchen, while experiencing it.
Rest assured, the proprietor is aware of most shortcomings, and will appreciate your return visit,...
