The place is a little hard to find, but well worth the search. We'll definitely be coming back when we're on the area.
The food was excellent, and you can tell the cook enjoys what he does. My wife is a picky eater, but she thoroughly enjoyed the Lake Pontchartrain. They were able to make the sauce not spicy.
I had the hamburger steak. The meat was well seasoned, while the gravy and potatoes tasted like they were made from scratch. The onions on top were sweet, almost like thin sliced blooming onions.
My wife ordered the tea, and I ordered the coke. That was a mistake, so I order my own. It was sweet with more of a lemon iced tea/ Arnold palmer taste over a tea with lemon wedges.
Things to be aware of: They do not give refills. We weren't bothered, but others might be. There is only one bathroom in the restaurant. They have 2 incense burners in the room. If incense bothers you, you may need to consider take out. You need to turn down the road next to Mike's Poboys. You will see their trailer parked next to where they are located. They've recently gone up on prices and have not updated...
Read moreI found this place and thought it may be a hidden gem, but after ordering the cup of gumbo to go I ended up waiting 50 minutes before I finally got my food. Once I got home the gumbo was cold. The staff repeatedly checked on every other person waiting and laughed and talked with them, but never once let me know if my order would be ready. People ordered full entrees and sides off the menu and received their order within minutes, but for some reason my cup of gumbo(which I'm sure is made ahead of lunchtime) took 50 minutes. I didn't get a sorry for the wait. She just handed me my food and went back inside. Loud rap music blaring like there was a concert going on inside. Not family friendly. I could've went to Mike Anderson's on HWY 30 and got a cup of gumbo quicker and it would've tasted better. Service is key to staying in business and Sweet and Savory does NOT...
Read moreCozy tucked away restaurant. My daughter came for the oxtails but we didn’t see them on the menu. We also ordered boudin egg rolls which were not available and substituted with seafood bread. I was a little out off because of the imitation crab meat. However it would have been pretty good but the seasoning sprinkled on top was salty. If you have any sodium restrictions this will not be the best place. My daughter says the gumbo was good but a little salty. She also had catfish pontchartrain top with fried shrimp. Again stated the friend shrimp was salty. I had the waffles and chicken wings. The waffle was a little under cooked for me and the wings were a little salty also. I really go out for the dessert but they didn’t serve desserts. The lemonade was a 10 out of 10. This will be a one trip stop for me. Not really worth the...
