I went a few weeks ago for the first time. Although I grew up in the area, I had never visited the place. I'm a little disappointed that I missed out on good food and friendly staff for so many years!
The portion sizes were large, the food was tasty, and the service, although somewhat disorganized, was very good. It was disorganized only because the two women there asked us the same questions a few times. There could have been more communication between them, but they made sure that we were happy.
The atmosphere was just a tad dark for what I like, but as a cafe, it was cozy. I think the idea of a cafe/lunch place was what made me think of it as dark. There are murals and scenes on the walls and the tables, which brightened up the atmosphere considerably.
They have a good selection of teas, which I prefer and appreciate. They gave me recommendations, and I enjoyed my selection. Breakfast and lunch were being served at the time of my visit, and my party of three enjoyed our selections from both menus.
I was a little confused by the ordering procedure. I don't know if I missed the sign, but orders are taken at the counter, not at the table. My party realized when we saw another party come in behind us and order before sitting down.
I was most impressed by the dill dressing on the pasta salad. I didn't know that I liked dill...
Read moreI came here with family and friends from out of state. Was expecting a 4.5 star experience but unfortunately it fell short. The decor is AWESOME!!!!!! But the staff fell short. First time I have been here and wasn’t welcomed, wasn’t explained on how things work or how to order. You seat yourself, had to find the menus, then go place your order. Signs would help. You tip as you pay/place your order which is rude due to you don’t know what your service or food is going like.
Food wise we ordered
Star cakes. They were ok. No variety of syrups
Traditional breakfast. Eggs were good, bacon was super greasy, but the potatoes were awesome.
Sunrise Burger and tomato basil soup. Bun was tough, the patty was something from a frozen kind with no seasoning.....but was ok. The soup was not up to par at all. It was sweet and tasted “exactly” like Chef Boyardee.
This place has SOOOO much potential. If the staff had more character and was more welcoming and made you feel at home it would have helped a lot. Food was ok. We might come back......I don’t know yet. Might just Waitr the...
Read moreOdd place, sits in a strip mall with other generalized businesses but does not really stand out as an eatery. Sign at the road, upon first glance, gives the look of being an old lounge or no tell motel. Inside, it looks like a small cafe in New Orleans that is in need of a good cleaning. Air vents had so much junk stuck to them, and the ceiling around them as well figured I would end up with some of it on my plate. Staff was pretty stiff, but food got out quickly. However, nothing was really hot to say it was being made at the time of order. My girlfriend and I got 3 different dishes and split them, Hampton Potatoes, Star Omelet, and a Star Cake. Hampton dish was good solely because the potatoes had a great flavor, Omelet was ok but nothing special, and the Star Cake was nothing I couldn't get from Aunt Jemima. As breakfast choices go, you can do...
