Wanted to wait a couple hours to think about my visit to write a review. I am highly upset with this place for how my evening went. We arrived a family of five. I took my mother and father as well as one of my daughters and my niece out to dinner. Never even heard of this place before and wanted to try something new. We were seated pretty quickly. And the host took out drink orders and we got those quickly. That's as far as the good experience went. We ordered pretty basic things my father a burger that came with fries and a soup or salad. My mother fish and chips. Idk what the name if what I ordered was. And two kids things... I wasn't paying attention. When my father ordered he tried to order a salid with his buger and fries and the waitress Michelle I think insisted it was the one meal in the section of the menu they didn't get a salid or soup even though it clearly said it did. He also ordered a side of mustard with his order. My mother asked very clearly for a side if some cut lemons with her fish and chips and even mentioned she was going to put lemon juice on her fish. It took FOREVER to get the food. When we did. The waitress asked how it all looked. And my mother told her she still needed lemons and the mustard for my father. The waitress said ok and then immediately went to a table and took their order instead of quickly getting it or asking someone to get it. After taking the order she brought the mustard but once again forgot the lemons. My mother patiently and politely asked again. Explaining thay she won't eat it without Lemon and asked if she could go get it as her food was getting cold. The waitress then very rudely pointed to my mother's drink and said "you have lemons right there" to which my mother for like the 4th time had to explain it was for her fish. The waitress said she'd get it right away and then once again, went to another new table to take an order. Them when she brought the lemon my mother asked her to just take the whole plate because because now the food was cold and she wasn't going to eat it. My meal was amazing.. I'd like to add that part. It was great. However I did keep asking her for a refill of my drink as we were there an hour and I never got a refill.. when we were done and already all very unhappy the waitress came and handed me the check. I tired ti have her my card but she made a hand gester towards the register near the front door and rushed off. So I went to pay. Tried to ask to speak to someone about the fish as I didn't feel this experience deserved $99.00 and a nice girl tried to get the host and the hosted shushed her cause she was busy on the phone. I went ahead and paid the bill and came back to the table yo the waitress telling me she gave me the wrong check. Mine was for like 84$. So we had to go upfront for a refund and to pay mine. I tried to ask how quickly a refund should happen here and she said immediately because it was a pending charge. Banks don't do that lol... as I was trying to get it worked out a man came who seemed to be in charge and asked what all had happened. We tried explaining it all. His solution was to pay me the difference in cash which I was fine with, and to offer my father a salad to go.. we didn't want that. I did try to ask about taking the fish that wasn't eaten off of the bill and handed me 15$ and rushed off into the back. This was a horrible experience. I would hope it's not always like this. But I'm not sure I'll ever be back to find out. Which is sad because again. My food...
Read moreWow, it's unfortunate I have to leave this review honestly - I guess disclaimer, the food I've had has always been pretty good, I've only tried a couple things though as this had always been more my moms thing, and she often went there with friends instead of me. If I were going to rate them solely on food, it would be a solid 4/5, not the best food I've ever had but certainly good. This is the only thing keeping this review from 1 star.
I'm not rating this solely on the food because I have never been treated this way at a restaurant before, just trying to have a nice dinner out with my mother. Now I've been to other Taboon restaurants, and I'll say this one looks very upscale and elegant, to the point I almost felt under dressed, but none of the other ones have had that vibe - not to say they weren't also nice, but this was above and beyond lovely. Our server came by to take our drink orders and was very charming, but the pleasantries ended as soon as he realized we weren't going to be big spenders. Mom and I typically split a meal, they're often too much for either of us to eat and we prefer not to be wasteful. As soon as we said we would be sharing our meal he paused and repeated it, like he wasn't sure he was hearing correctly. From then on I saw him throughout our entire meal chatting with other tables, taking pictures of the people at the bar with a big smile on his face, looked like he was having a great time. But at our table? He didn't even speak to us. Sat our plates down and left. My mother looked so uncomfortable, being snubbed by waitstaff, at a restaurant she loves.
We shouldn't have left a tip at all, but unlike some people, we're kind. Guess we'll just be going across town to the other location, or even just Pita Way, the food's just as good and half the price - clearly aimed more at people like 'me' who would dare share a meal in a nice restaurant.
I am truly furious my mother had to experience this. If it were just me I'd be annoyed and let it go, but it's taking every fiber of restraint in my body to keep this nice because she has raised me to have manners.
If I ever come back I certainly won't...
Read moreI came in for dinner and had honestly thought Ashton Kutcher and Punk’d was back. I asked my waitress which fish did not have bones (some textures don’t go well with me) and was told the whitefish after she walked away to ask. I got my dinner and take the first bite, fives bones that a put from my mouth onto the side of my plate. Tried another part of the fish to try and not be wasteful, more bones. I asked for something else and she wanted to take my plate away, I told her I was really hungry and would like to eat my fries first (just hiked about 4 miles in the woods). She was really weird about me wanting to eat my fries first and then came back telling me that I would have to lie about what happened and say that I just didn’t like it rather than it not being what I ordered, in order to not pay for it. I told her there was no “if”, because she brought me specifically what I said I didn’t want to eat in the first place, that I would not be paying for it and that I’m not going to be weird and lie about it either if the owner asks me. She almost walks away WITHOUT EVEN ASKING IF SHE COULD GET ME SOMETHING ELSE INSTEAD and then turns around as an obvious afterthought that MAYBE she should see if I want something else since this gross fish is not what I asked for. I already had a side of fries and soup, and so I asked for a side of shrimp to replace my baked fish. You would think normal logic would replace a hot dinner protein with a hot dinner protein, for example shrimp with onion and garlic or maybe one of the other shrimp mains with mushroom and tomato. Nope! I got brought a shrimp cocktail with ice cubes on it. I was really waiting for the owner to come tell me they were messing with me, but instead he made really awkward jokes and charged me a whole shrimp dinner for this icy, rubbery mess. This was a joke and is sending a long time, regular customer to La...
