Roadhouse Cafe — Restaurant in Grand Forks

As someone who has worked in the restaurant business I always try to keep in mind that there are sometimes difficult customers and it's hard to deal with while working, but our experience was completely unacceptable, THIS PLACE IS A HEALTH HAZARD, the bill was $80, first I was ordering my 10 year old daughter who is in 5th grade something off the kids menu and the waitress told me no she cant because its for 10 and under, out of my 4 kids only 1 wanted something off the kids menu smh i had to pretty much beg her to believe that i was not lying about her age, i felt as if I needed to provide a birth certificate just to prove that I was not lying. (She's taller than the average 10 year old) but that wasn't even the worse part. I then ordered the turkey dinner and the food was so cold the gravy looked like it was cooked then placed in the fridge for a day, it was so gross, but I accepted it, because again I hate to complain, but I then noticed with the first bite that the potatoes were literally so hard it was not even chewable, (mashed potatoes should not have to be chewed on like a beef jerky) I figured no big deal when she comes by I'll just ask for a different side, so I then go for the stuffing which after giving my 5 yr old son the 2nd bit I noticed white hair which looked like pet hair had fallen off the cooks clothing or something (cat or dog hair) my 5 year old is EXTREMELY allergic to pet hair I'm praying to God he doesn't have a reaction, I then called her over and asked her to look at the hard pieces all in the potatoes and the hair in the stuffing, which she acknowledged, she explained the potatoes are usually like that by the end of the night because of it being the bottom of what was made earlier in the day (so how long were those potatoes sitting there in a warmer to get that dang hard??) but then she takes my plate from me and comes back with the check and a bowl of soup and said she will be able to take %15 off the turkey dinner ($2) the entire meal was still on the plate when she grabbed it, the ENTIRE plate of food! I am 6 months pregnant and had such a busy day didn't have time to eat i was so hungry (there was a camera right above us) I told her I did not want to pay for a meal that i didn't even get to eat and that has HAIR in it, she then says there's nothing she can do (which is a lie) obviously. I told her I am not paying for it, after arguing with me for a minute I was so embarrassed, So she storms off and jumps on the phone I'm thinking she calling the cops but thankfully it was her manager she called. Not to mention I ordered my 5 and 8 year old boys pancakes off the ADULT menu and asked for extra fruit and whipped cream which none of them got but we were still charged and had to pay for, my daughter didn't get her ice cream we paid for. I'm keeping a close eye on my son if he has a reaction, it was 1 bite he took but I am so worried because of the severity of his allergen, I could care less about the $ it's the whole health hazard that is so upsetting. And the way we were treated. Why should we have to pay for food that is completely unedible? I have never ever ever had such a horrible experience at a restaurant before in my life! This is the very first review I have ever made in my 32 years of living. I have had many horrible experiences but this was by far the worse. Safe to say we will NEVER be returning...

I loved being there with my family. We laughed and fellowshipped. Being accepted as I am, a human being. Chili was awesome.i am really tired but I hope you have a great day. LORD, Right now I lift up the staff and any and all employees who currently work there. BLESS them with your Love and Mercy. Provide them with an adequate customer base so they can continue to provide for their family and friends. We pray that all of the folks who ate there receive your love and understanding in their hearts ans mindsearts . I love this place because my sister works there and I love her very mucb. SHE saved my miserable selfserving, selfrighous, and self centered, dope fiend alcoholic life. It's because of the provision that your establishment provides I have been able to survive since I moved to Grand Forks. We sometimes fight, but I love her so much. BE NICE TO HER. DON'T MESS WITH HER THOUGH. She knocked me out when I was little. I went to a Rocky Movie and thought I was a boxer. We had some gloves and I told her to go ahead and hit me. So she did and it rang my bell. That made me sad. Anyway, she is hard worker just like several other employees out there. I love my Sisters very much. It's weird how when I do reviews, I go off on topics that really don't have anything to do with the actual review. Anyway, I am really grateful I am clean and sober and am allowed go walk into these places and be with beautiful people, because really I should be either dead, or doing life in Prison. I don't normally complain or write reviews. This time I have to. I have been coming to your cafe since the late 70's. This was the first time I looked at my wife and said I am not coming back here again. I asked for extra crispy hashbrowns and got old grease tasting ones that were barely fried, and that was after the waitress tried to get the cook to make them 'crunchy'. It was as if the young cook had no clue. The pancakes were substandard. My mexican omlet was ok, but the chili tasted nothing like that chili your cafe use to make. It just tasted like tomatoes. I couldn't eat the hashbrowns. They tasted as if they were fried in old grease, and were greasy. If I didn't know any better, I would say the grill was not hot enough. I have been a line cook and professional cook along with my wife for many years, this was by far the worse food I have eaten in you establishment ever. The service by the wait staff was excellent, and we could tell that the waitress was embarassed by the food we were served. We spent $38 for something that I would never serve to my worse enemy. My wife also wrote a reveiw and shared a copy of the receipt with you. It is not about the money, it is about the quality, the lack of, 'I care what I feed you'.
