John Allison Public House — Restaurant in Greencastle

Me and my wife went today, this was are our 1st experience in that the place the service was great until the food arrived, we both ordered the 12oz Ribeye steak mine was with French Fries and my wife was with the Mashed Potatoes in my case my steak was the way I ordered (Medium Rare) but the fries was too cold and over cooked I just barely ate it, now my wife ordered her well done and they serve her a medium rare when she at the beginning ordered a well done one, the server was nice to take the plate back and ask to cook a little bit more and the she brought the plate back we cut the meat to check is was done the way supposed be and instead we got a medium well steak and for that my wife lost her appetite. Now as a former chef I’ll said this the food wasn’t pleasant at all and top of that the place wasn’t busy for the cook mess up the food easy and simple, also next time I’ll suggest who ever is managing the kitchen need to pay attention to details that is fundamental for restaurant to keep functional, the next time we get there to try enjoy our meals and doesn’t meet the standards I’ll gladly teach the cook how to...

This is my second review for this place. I changed from a one-star to a 3-star mainly because our server was very attentive. We were in at 8 last evening and there were not a lot of people there. The hostess was rude . She acted like it was a pain for her to come from the main dining room out into the sports dining room to give us our menus. When I looked at the menu, I was taking aback by the rules and regulations. ie. Make sure you keep your children seated, no cell phone usage, if you order your steak a certain way and don't like it you still have to pay for it??? I think we know this is common sense and it does not need to be placed on a menu. I had the risotto , it was overcooked and sticky . My husband had the prime rib sandwich which he loved. And my son had the tilapia . He just said, eh... His California blend vegetables looked and tasted like they came out of a frozen bag. There are not many choices in Greencastle to have a nice dinner. I'm hoping there are changes in the food area, and please reconsider hiring someone who has a little personality to...

Our family had a nice evening here! Overall it was a very good experience. I had the fried haddock and would certainly order it again, in fact, it was recommended by my son (who couldn't make it) and we came here specifically based on his recommendation. It did not disappoint! I could see us go here again, simply to order that item. It consists of two huge planks of fried haddock that were perfectly battered and with the tartar sauce, absolutely delicious. The rest of the family order items to their specifications and simply is pleased. Only hold up from five stars, was there seemed to be a miscue at the start of our experience as we were waiting for a solid 10 or 15 minutes for anyone to come over. The hostess eventually realized we were still sitting, I took care of getting the server to come over. The server overall was good, personable, and worked to make connections with the kids in particular which was nice. So, maybe just a bit of disorganization somewhere.
