A not so Happy New Year’s Eve!
I usually do not write reviews but in this case I felt compelled.
After receiving numerous Facebook ads displaying delicious looking weekend specials my wife and I decided to drive 45 minutes to the Promised Land Inn on this past New Year’s Eve.
We tried to reserve a table for 7pm through the Open Table app and were notified that all tables were booked from 5:30pm through 8:30pm so we made a reservation for 5pm.
We arrived at the very rustic but cozy inn where only 4 other patrons were seated. Fine, we knew it was early. We were greeted by a very upbeat waitress and ordered a couple of well-made cocktails. So far, so good.
When the waitress came to take our order, we asked about the delicious looking specials that the restaurant promoted. She then informed us that all the specials were sold out! How could they be sold out during the first sitting on New Year’s Eve? She said the owner who is not present did not order enough food for the specials. She was very apologetic and we could see she was uncomfortably embarrassed. We were very disappointed. She told us the only special available was the $110 Tomahawk steak. We ordered the Tomahawk prepared medium after the waitress said it tends to come out on the medium rare side when cooked. While we waited for our meal, we ordered a Caprese salad appetizer that was fair to say the least.
After 45 minutes the steak was presented. It was as rare as possible. Not even close to medium rare and no where near medium. But even worse it could not be eaten. It would be easier to cut through a sneaker! We both felt duped and scammed regarding the whole experience and unfortunately would never recommend the Promise Land Inn at all.
Also, it was 7pm when we left and never were there more than 4 other couples in attendance during our visit. The place was pretty much empty. So why the Open Table app said no reservations were available during 5:30 – 8:30 is another mystery.
We will say the cocktails were fine and the waitress was a pleasure. Our bill with tip was over $200. It is unfortunate that I have to leave a negative review such as this, but this was my experience.
I hope this review helps others when deciding if they should give the Promised...
Read moreEarly this evening, my husband and I returned to The Promised Land Inn, for the first time since it's under new management, and been renovated. I have to say, we were more than pleased with our experience, from the time we arrived, until we paid our check.
The new decor inside is tasteful and attractive; the bathrooms have been redone and are CLEAN (a must for any restaurant). We sat outside, and the furniture there is tasteful and comfortable.
The new menu is well done and offers something for everyone, including children. We shared mini crab cakes stuffed with brie as an appetizer (with a delicious side sauce). My husband had a French dip with sweet potato fries, and I had a classic flat bread (basically a pizza). All of our food was delicious! We also had four draft beers (Miller Lite, nothing fancy). All that amazing food, plus four drinks, came to just over $50.00!
But what really blew us away, and ensures our return, was the service we received from our waitress, Ally (Alli?). She was getting busy as we arrived, and more tables kept coming. She was alone, waiting on everyone by herself and never neglected us or made us wait for anything. Having been a server for years, I understand the kind of pressure she was under...Ally was grace under fire. I know for a fact that in addition to us, she had a 12 top, an 8 top, two - 2 tops, and another 4 and 5 top arriving while she was getting our check and ToGo boxes. She told us she had lost some people recently, so she was trying to keep it together. Ally by herself was better than many servers we've had at other restaurants. She was really great! My husband and I were blown away by Ally's professionalism.
I don't normally write reviews, but after enjoying dinner as much as we did, and seeing the effort that Ally put forth for all of the customers, it only...
Read moreWe spent the weekend (4/11 - 4/13 2025) at Promised Land State Park and after getting camp set up, we stopped in for dinner on Friday night. We chose Promised Land Inn for proximity, but also because the online menu looked very intriguing. We definitely made a great choice!
They had a very nice selection of specialty cocktails, and I was pleasantly surprised to see they had Deschutes brewery on tap. My wife had the chocolate martini and (since it wasn't too busy and we lingered for a while) the PLI Old Fashioned. All the beverages were excellent. We ordered the Spinach and Artichoke dip appetizer and I have to say that it was the best preparation of this dish I've ever had. My wife had the Classic flatbread pizza, and I had the Arugula salad with dried cranberries, walnuts, and Burrata cheese. I opted to add the filet steak for protein. Our meals were delicious, well-prepared, and arrived timely. The portion of steak with my salad was generous, and perfectly-seasoned/cooked. The salad itself was large and filling. Burrata cheese is a personal favorite of ours and we were both happy to see this unexpected addition to our meal.
The service and atmosphere were top notch. Our server (my apologies for not getting her name) was friendly and attentive, and even one of the other staff stopped by just to be sure we had everything we needed.
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention one other thing. There was a group of children in the area next to us who were having a great time, drawing pictures of the various taxidermied animals, and our server regularly engaged with them. She even took them around to "introduce" them to the animals. It was a delight to watch and really made us smile. Thank you for an immensely enjoyable...
