En route to Biloxi with some Western Star X47 rigz and I was craving some Mexican eatz.

I found this little gem and WOW!!

I walked in and was promptly greeted and seated.

I saw several folks enjoying tacos, chiles rellenos, quesadillas, and margaritas.

Quite a few of the patrons were on a first name basis with wait staff. A very good sign of great food and service that brings you back for more!

The chips and salsa were up first. Chips were fresh and not over salty. The salsa was pretty tasty, so much so that ordered up a refill.

I had an agua de jamaica. It was just right, not too sweet, not too tart.

I tried a plate of Chile Colorado. It was absolutely delicious. One of the best Chile Colorado I've had in a while. The meat was tender and without any gristle. Grilled onions were caramelized and added a great flavor. The salsa was seasoned to perfection with a decent amount of bite. Rice and beanz were standard issue. The torts were soft and fresh.

If you're in the area and need your Mexican food fiix, I strongly recommend you try this place!! You will not be...

This is a small restaurant that used to be a BBQ joint that failed, followed by an attempt at a gourmet restaurant with high prices that also failed. The atmosphere and food is quite different than what was in the building before them. They have made this place into a nice little Mexican restaurant with pretty good food. I would consider it a down home local venue with minimal decorations or ambiance which is what I found appealing. Their focus is on their food and the service is not bad. I finished my plate and was pleased with what I ate. I didn't leave hungry. The complementary salsa is really hot but I could not stop eating it. The chips were still warm and light leading me to believe they were fresh made. Prices are reasonable and the wait staff was pleasant. The night we went the dining room was at capacity but we were able to get a seat with out waiting. I suppose a big city food critic would give them three stars but I give them five because this is the small town non-corporate atmosphere and authentic cooking I...

We were passing through the area on our home from Florida and found this restaurant on Yelp. We have eaten ā€œauthenticā€ Mexican food across the country and absolutely loved the food here! The manager greeted us right away, was friendly and even brought us margaritas while we waited for a table! The margaritas were pretty good, not my favorite, but still very good. The chips were crispy and the salsa was tasty and fresh. My husband had the carnitas and they were crispy on the outside and moist and delicious inside. He cleaned his plate! I had the chicken chimichanga and it was wonderful and packed with chicken. I wish this restaurant was closer to where we lived because we would be...

A Mexican restaurant where the service is very fast. We were passing through and even before a bathroom stop the drinks are on the table. The main language is Spanish (Mexican) but of course they speak and understand English very well. There are plenty of food choices and all are typical Mexican. And to my understanding also very cheap and affordable. For a quick and fast stop on the highway this is the place to go. My Mastercard didn’t work but my American Express did. So that’s good to know! Now the food: we had different choices and they were all OKish. Especially for the price! The four of us eat for around $50 together and that’s amazing in the states nowadays (2024)

READā—ļøā—ļøā—ļø This place was great! I loved the laid back and authentic atmosphere. My waiter was sweet and attentive. My food was excellent, fresh, and came out quickly. I saw the margaritas but as tempting as it was I didn’t get one. Now I want to double back just to try! I saw a whole table and each person had huge glasses filled to the brimā—ļø I am from out of state passing through but from now on El Amigo is in my TOP for Mexican food. Thank you 😊 (whole restaurant was clean and neat) all of the staff were very welcoming
