I took my friend to the Greenwood Country Tearoom yesterday to celebrate her birthday, and we had a FANTASTIC lunch!
Our server was Marci, who was absolutely wonderful; she was kind and solicitous and guided us through the menu choices (including the specials of the day). She happily accommodated our special requests and offered suggestions for substitutions when we had questions. She was calm yet efficient, and we never felt like we were waiting. She checked on us frequently during our meal, and seemed genuinely committed to ensuring we had a lovely time.
Honestly, EVERYONE we interacted with at the Tearoom was superb, from the time we made our reservation to the end of our meal. Many thanks to Marcie, Brenda, Judith, our hostess, and the other waitresses working yesterday. No matter how busy they were, everyone had a smile for us as they seated us or passed by our table.
The menu is superb--very eclectic and extremely fresh and delicious. Everything is homemade, and our hostess tells us that they are largely family recipes. I had the turkey-artichoke sandwich, which was exquisitely yummy, and the pickled beets (deliciously pickled but very mild!). My friend had the olive and walnut ribbon sandwich--a true tea-time sandwich, and quite tasty, and the side berry salad, which was delicious! We finished off our meal with desserts to-go: I had the berry tart, and my friend had the bread pudding, and both were simply delectable. What fabulous food! Tons of kudos for everyone in the kitchen!!
Because the Tearoom is so popular, we DEFINITELY recommend reservations! Even a party of two might have trouble finding a table during the lunch hour. The ambience is truly old-style charming, and the prices are extremely reasonable; we can see why the Tearoom is filled to the brim, all the time.
We will ABSOLUTELY return to the Tearoom as soon as we can, and this time we'll wear hats and gloves to match the beautiful decor. :-) Thank you, to everyone there, for such a marvelous,...
Read moreThis is one of the greatest hidden gems in the area of Kansas City. I've been to all sorts of restaurants downtown, in Liberty, in Overland Park, but this tiny tea room is literally my favorite restaurant. Every dish I've ever had from here, I've loved. They use high quality ingredients and make the most unique, adorable sandwiches you've never heard of. Full Disclosure: I don't like sanwiches very much. Yet this is my favorite restaurant. That should say something. The tea makes the meals even better. I love getting to try their large array of teas, and drinking them with lunch makes me feel all warm and cozy. The decor is so lovely, you'll feel like you should wear a vintage gown while sipping your tea. Every lunch is like a classic tea party thanks to the beautiful rooms - the owners truly have an eye for style. And have I mentioned the desserts? You can't leave the tea room without dessert. They are to die for. If you're full, buy one to go - you won't regret it. Try the bread pudding if they still have it. It is a delight. At the end of your meal, you might be surprised at the low price on your ticket. You can go to any mediocre restaurant in Lee's Summit and spend the same amount - but without the vintage, delightful tea room experience. I truly don't know how they keep their prices so low. I go there to spend and come away with more money. It probably has to do with whatever magic spell they cast to make the food taste so good. Or maybe the ladies at the tea room cook and do business only one way: with love. Set your reservation with the tea room, then check out the antique store before you go. I'm sure you'll have a...
Read moreOne thing to be aware of: the bathroom door doesn’t lock properly, and there’s no sign to indicate that. So, an unsuspecting guest walking by got a glimpse of my thigh tattoo from the hallway. 🙃 We mentioned it to the waitress, but she said it was a landlord issue and out of their hands?
The food and tea was genuinely very good, and everyone we interacted with in person was polite and welcoming, especially the young woman at the front. However, we did run into a few issues leading up to our visit.
We had trouble with the online reservation system, so we called to book over the phone. While trying to clarify some details, we encountered a bit of rudeness—nothing extreme, but it was noticeable and made the process uncomfortable. We also called earlier in the week to confirm, only to find that some of the information we were originally given wasn’t accurate. And we were suppose to have a limited menu due to allergies, but never got the call to work that out and they called two hours beforehand to try and fix it?
Thankfully, it all worked out the day of and we had a lovely time.
The antique shop ladies were so sweet to us and helped out so so much we ended up sharing the cake and party favors with them.
In the end, we enjoyed ourselves, but the whole process of making a reservation felt a bit more complicated than it should have been. If you’re planning a party or special event, just be prepared for a few bumps. But for a casual visit or meal, I think it’s a great spot, just be careful about the bathroom and...
