Solera — Restaurant in Grinnell

Visited on 1/5/24 between 6:50pm-7:10pm. 1 Glass of Chardanay for $13. 15-20 patrons during my visit & owned/operated by 1 person... gotta be a bit overwhelming. They do have pizza toaster ovens for flatbread pizza's that go for $13. Highest wine glass prices I saw were $19. Over 30+ different beers (half out of state) on their menu.. more than what the local craft tap house has. On 2 separate notes... in response to the previous reviewer before mine "Richard White", How would a political poster have any affect on the experience with the business itself? Would you still have added that irrelevant criticism if it had been Republican?... the end of the day its all the same. Both sides act & operate the same way. Corrupted, full of hypocrisy & contradictions while pointing blame at one another. Motivated by greed & self-interest. In Response to "Harolds" maybe some folks don't want to hear politics period. When trying to relax with a good drink, or run a business. No matter the side, time & place sort of thing... as an example, you had someone being loud & obnoxious about it and trying to push their politics on everyone around them I could see the bartender/owner subtly trying to get that person out by giving them the cold shoulder or handing them the bill...

Grinnell is so lucky to have Solera and Colleen. This place truly is a gem on the prairie. Colleen has the type of knowledge about wine you would expect from a master sommelier at an upscale metropolitan restaurant or winery, but she shares it with such friendly, down-to-earth charm that makes each interaction a joy. I have never entered Solera and not felt at home, and have never left without learning something new. Colleen’s honest passion for her store and customers keeps regulars coming back even without indoor dining and events, and Grinnell is truly blessed to have her.

Solera’s COVID protocols are also great—masks are required at all times (and provided if you do not have one), there is hand sanitizer at the door, and surfaces and pens are wiped down after every use.

This is our favorite place for wine, beer, hor d'oeuvres and community. Colleen is the owner, server, and chef. She fosters a classy, fun and welcoming atmosphere for anyone looking for a nice beer after work, a romantic night of drinks with their partner, a community atmosphere to enjoy with a group of friends, and anything in between. Her selection and knowledge of wine makes it easy for the most serious of wine connoisseurs as well as novices (like me!) to enjoy a bottle. You can simply tell her what you like, how much you want to spend and she will not lead you astray. If you want a drink or two then stop by Solera the next time you are in Grinnell, you will be welcomed...
