Bates Flowers by Design — Local services in Grinnell

My family had ordered flowers for my grandma's funeral on Monday. We were told they would be delivered to Smith's funeral home on Wednesday afternoon (the day before the funeral). Today when we arrived and seen that our flower arrangement wasn't there but others were we got concerned. We got told at first they didn't have it and then we got told it was on its away. The reason we got was the funeral home wasn't accepting flowers when they tried to deliver yesterday even though other flower arrangements from other flower shops had delivered theirs. When you finally showed up with it , the delivery person never apologized for the delay and rushed out of there. A few minutes later we noticed that the ribbons that were supposed to be on there weren't. We then had to call you guys back . When they brought the ribbons once again no one came and apologize for the screw up. I will not be doing business with...

So glad we have this gem downtown. Bates place not only has beautiful fresh flowers, but candles, tons of plants, fun little gift items and some really delicious chocolate. Absolutely wonderful people and very friendly without hounding me, begging for a sale. I found out that the owner is the only florist around, who has actually gone to school for floral design, so this is definitely where I will be getting flowers for my mom now that she lives here.

*note: I did stop into 'the other place' that same day... Horrible! I was chased around the store and pleaded for a review here, while a man that I assume is the owner's creepy husband or boyfriend leered at me from the corner. It was very awkward and off-putting and I will never step foot in Vonda's again.
