It pains me to give Mr. Crab 3 stars. Normally when we come here to eat, it’s with a group of 5-8. There is usually no problem with the food or service; everyone is pretty friendly and despite a couple of odd allergies and a few dietary restrictions, everyone in our family is able to find something on the menu. I order the same time every time we come here. I sometimes ask for NO SPICE due to GI issues that act up from time to time, and other times I’ll get some spice. Today we were just a party of two, and I asked for garlic butter with no spice. I repeated myself twice to ensure there was no spice; today is an iffy day for my GI issues and I’d rather not taste crab and mussels coming back up. I began eating and noticed there was a bit of spice, probably somewhere between their normal mild and medium. I asked the waitress if she was sure there was no spice and she asked the kitchen, who told her there was none. Okay, fine. Maybe it was the sauce from the hush puppies; I had had a few of those and didn’t notice spiciness, but maybe it was a delayed reaction. The waitress offered to take my plate and “rinse the crab” or “steam it again” for me. Absolutely not. I noticed the sauce was a little redder than usual, and the middle part of the claw was cold and full of water, like it was frozen, then steamed part of the way through, but not all of the way. Then I noticed red pepper flakes (see photo of one pepper flake; I did not take photos of the individual mussels that had more,) on the crab shell and inside some of the mussels. I ate what I could (all of the seafood,) but I’m pretty disappointed both in myself for not asking for it to be remade completely, but also in the staff for pushing back when I told them something was wrong. We do have a hot pepper allergy (full on anaphylaxis within minutes of ingesting it,) in the family, and I can’t in good conscience bring my family back here again if customers are dismissed when an issue with the food is brought to staff’s attention; specifically that it would be rinsed and then re-steamed. That definitely won’t solve the issue. I’m pretty non-confrontational with restaurant staff and try to avoid wasting food or sending food back for various reasons, but IF we ever return, I don’t think I’ll be ordering anything with garlic...
Read moreWe visited Mr.Crab a few days ago for a small pre-birthday celebration. My husband got the chicken po'boy and the fried gyoza and I got a boil combo with crawfish, snow crab and an additional 1.2lbs of blue crab with the Mr. Crab sepcial seasoning choice and milk spicy level. It had been a very long time since I have had a Cajun style seafood boil meal like this and I wasn't disappointed! I can't say it's exactly as it was when my family would do boils when I grew up in Louisiana but it's a very comparable delicious meal. The crawfish and blue crab really scratched the itch for that familiar seafood I was missing, but I have to say the snow crab really stole the show. If I returned I would just get two clusters of snow crab and call it a day. The blue crab and crawfish were a tad overcooked for me, personally, and the blue crab specifically was not worth the effort to peel. The spice level at mild was good for me but I could likely chance the medium as well. Maybe in the future! The Mr. Crab seasoning choice that combines all the other ones was also good! My husband's chicken Po'boy was not at all traditional, kind of as expected, but he did say it was pretty good. The fries were very crispy and delicious and the fried gyoza was super crispy and went so well with the dipping sauce. Honestly I would get my own separate order in the future, they were so good! The service was good and they provide literally everything you would ever need for seafood like this including a seafood boil bib, gloves, a bucket for shells, all the utensils and crackers and even your own roll of paper towels + a wet nap at the end of your meal. It is all appreciated considering how actually messy it gets. Done come here with your nice shirt! I would definitely recommend this place if you want to get your hands dirty with some good...
Read moreThis is a review based solely on their food. The seaweed salad is scrumptious, and generally they do a good job with providing you with ginger and wasabi. I like that the food comes with chopsticks, no questions asked. The atomic sauce rates at about a 4 of 10 on my scale. Acts like a scorpion pepper, lasts as long, watch the lips though. I can get more heat from a tik tak. Overall the food is very good, well thought out.
The reason I give them two stars is that there is no flavor to the food. There is no umph to the menu. No overall authenticity. It's a mish mash of different dishes, all very good, but taken together, very meh.
I can get a meal at a gas station that tastes the same for a fraction of the price.
In conclusion, don't waste your money. There are plenty of other places close by that will give you what you are looking for in...
