A very upsetting experience. My husband and I moved to Mystic last September and have since made this a regular breakfast spot. We go every weekend- sometimes even twice on the weekend! It's got a nice hustle and bustle atmosphere and the waitresses are very efficient during the weekend rush. I have tried nearly everything on the menu and have enjoyed most things that I've tried. The few things that weren't particularly to my liking I ate anyway and just didn't order again. This morning was the first time I tried something that was, to me, inedible. I ordered the "healthy" which was advertised as a vegetable quiche. It came out looking, and tasting, like plastic. This outside was hard and dark yellow like it had be sitting out for awhile and it was just generally tasteless. I had ONE bite and didn't touch any of the other food on my plate. I have been a waitress for fifteen and absolute HATE complaining about anything or sending things back but the breakfast I'd ordered was just really not good. I asked the waitress if I could send it back and order something else, which she said was no problem. I ordered what my husband had because he said it was good and I figured that was easiest.
At the end of our meal, our bill came and they had charged us for all three breakfasts. When we tried to explain that we hadn't eaten the quiche the woman at the register, who turned out to be the OWNER, said, "there was nothing wrong with that quiche. I've sold thirty of them today- your wife just wanted something else." I was, needless to say, shocked! I explained that we were regular customers and were not trying to get a free meal but honestly didn't enjoy the quiche. Her response was basically, "Too bad. I had to throw away perfectly good food and that's not my fault." Unbelievable. When we explained that she was losing regular customers by her extremely poor customer service her response was, "oh well."
Am SO disappointed. After so many years in the restaurant industry I cannot imagine ever treating a customer with such callousness and indifference. Please don't support these people- they don't care about you or your experience, and are, quite frankly, in the...
Read moreI honestly cannot tell you how this place has any ratings beyond one star. My fiance & I were in town for the weekend & this was by far the worst dining experience & yet most expensive we had.
We showed up on a Sunday at around 10:45 am & there would be a 30 min wait. Fine, it's prime time for Sunday brunch & we figured the wait was indicative of how spectacular this place would be. WRONG. Let's get something straight, if you're going to run a breakfast spot do not make your customers get their own coffee - even Dunkin Donuts serves you a coffee. Or please make it feasible to do so, your staff is exceptionally rude & you have it squashed up in the corner right by the kitchen & register & you literally have created a cluster traffic pattern begging to have some innocent person bumped into while spilling hot coffe all over them. Hope your insurance is better than this business model, because that's a lawsuit DYING to happen. And it's not as though the staff couldn't be troubled with bringing it to the table especially at these prices.
Next was the apathetic waitress and the ridiculous wait for some eggs & toast. After all this hassle we were expecting to be wowed by the food. My omlette was luke warm & the avocados were barely ripe. I've made better omlettes at home. After our waitress brought our food - we never saw her again. Didn't bother to ask us if we needed anything or how everything was. Next thing I know some other lady just walked over & put what was presumably a check face down on our table. Good thing we didn't want anything else because asking for the check wasn't one of them. Then came the shocking price. The price for an omelette & a quesadilla, it was $30. This is the biggest offense of all. We ate at MUCH better breakfast spots that weekend for less. My fiance & I live in the NYC area & for that price I have one overall message for the owners, I think you owe it to yourselves to start having some real insight about this deplorable establishment you call a restaurant & realize that while you think that purchasing more locally grown food equals good business, your place is the perfect example of...
Read moreThis was our second breakfast spot in CT. I don’t know if it’s because we’re accustomed to good/great breakfast in NYC from corner stores & expect sit down spots to do a good job but this place was just disappointing.
The waiting area inside smelled like a boys locker room in the summer time with no ventilation. Possibly because it was a hallway attached to a dance studio. This made us almost not go for breakfast but we drove 25 mins & we could sit outside & wait. They need to work on that.
Place had a unique self serve coffee / tea area. Guess this helped the staff have more time to help patrons. Not a bad idea in theory. Area was a bit messy - some patrons left their stirring spoons & made a mess when pouring milk.
Drinks: Me & my friend ordered the fresh squeezed lemonade. The cup was stacked with ice & barely any juice. We figured out why. We asked for another cup & was told we got the last two cups. They basically only had enough for one cup & made it work for two by stacking the cup with ice. Coffee was ok. Chai Tea was basically some sort of hot chocolate with hint of chai. Was weird when the waitress asked my SO if she wanted Whipped Cream on her Chai?!
Food: Best thing was my custom order of Bacon Egg & Cheese. It was tasty but I’d hope they wouldn’t mess that up. I also had the Thanksgiving Sandwich. This sounded amazing but was no where near that. It was slathered in Mayo. The cranberry sauce was a circular cut out from the can. The “stuffing” was this weird mushy flavorless thing. The Turkey was ok. Lacked flavor. Their home fries was just bad. It had no flavor & was like a baked potato that got left outside. It wasn’t even warm when it came to the table & 3 of my friends had it. That was so disappointing. The omelet with Avocado was sad. It was weird my friend could literally open the omelet like a book. The avocado was not ripe so it was hard. Overall subpar food.
Staff: They were nice enough. Nothing spectacular or nothing inherently bad. Just normal service.
Parking: there’s plenty parking here.
Price: Average Breakfast...
