⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A true Italian-American treasure — timeless, soulful, and delicious
GP’s Restaurant in Guttenberg is more than a neighborhood favorite — it’s a national treasure of Italo Americana that deserves to be on every food lover’s radar.
Tucked into the ground floor of a converted home in a quiet residential neighborhood, GP’s delivers the kind of warmth and flavor that can only come from generations of family ownership and loyal regulars. With red-and-white tablecloths, low lighting, and NYC-inspired Italian-American images on the walls, the ambiance feels both nostalgic and intimate — like you’ve stepped into a classic that’s been lovingly preserved.
The meal begins with a thoughtful touch: complimentary warm bread and butter, perfect alongside their fresh, crisp house salad. The menu offers a comforting lineup of Italian-American staples — baked pastas, crowd-pleasing appetizers, chicken, veal, pork, steak, and seafood — all done right. The standout? An incredible veal parmigiana, generously portioned, perfectly crisped, and richly sauced. It’s the kind of dish that leaves an impression. And don’t miss the tiramisu — airy, luscious, and indulgent.
There are nightly specials, too — inventive, modern spins on classic ingredients and traditions, with some dishes pushing into entirely new territory while staying grounded in Italian-American soul.
Service is warm, familial, and consistent — just like the food. House wines served in carafes are accessibly priced and pair beautifully with the menu. Whether you’re a local or visiting from out of town, this is the kind of place where you’re made to feel like a regular.
GP’s is everything a neighborhood restaurant should be — and more. Cozy, honest, flavorful, and proudly rooted in tradition. It should absolutely be a stop for any tourist looking to experience authentic Italian-American dining at...
Read moreI just had dinner at GP’s in Guttenburg and was not impressed at all. Had a 7:15reservation and no one came to check us in and we were not seated Until 7:40 Waitress came got our drink order and then took our dinner order. We ordered an appetizer of clams oreganto and my friend and I both ordered one of the specials the salad that we had was good the waitress then proceeded to bring out our entrees When I asked what happened to our appetizer, she said oh sorry about that. I’ll bring that out and you can have it with your entrées. We said we didn’t want it with our entrées. We wanted it before the entrées. She said OK she took our entrées back, and we waited for the appetizers to come out after we finished. She bought our entrées back out, which must have just been put under a heat light mine was cold. I told the waitress she took it back and I guess they reheated it again by the time I got it back the second time everything on the plate was dried out and was not tasty . I would definitely not recommend this place we had coffee at the end and they took that off as complementary because of the mixup with the appetizers. The food was not really great either. I don’t know how this place 4 1/2 star rating will not be going back very...
Read moreBeautiful place that has only gotten better over time. I have been there 3 times over many, many years & they're the nicest, kindest, loveliest people who genuinely care about everything from their servers, to their food & the atmosphere is cozy & romantic as well. I had forgotten about them. It's been a long time but honestly I will be back & much much sooner. If there were more stars I'd give them all to GP's & to everyone inside & outside of their establishment. It's like a food vacation that lingers in your heart & mind in the best way possible. (I will be buying a larger size of dress tomorrow because not only is the food yummy, the portions are huge & I wasn't leaving without the best Tiramisu west of little Italy in NYC...I can't breathe but I'll die happily & gratefully thanks again to GP's) ... Omg, this was a night I'll remember for a very...
