Wentworth Homemade Ice Cream — Restaurant in Hamden

I rarely leave reviews but we visited Wentworth's for the first time yesterday as a family with our young son. The person who helped us who was working behind the counter was annoyed that we asked about an allergy (peanut allergy, who I was with is very allergic) and was grumpy and rude around our young son, which is inappropriate. They said that the ice cream scoops are not cleaned in between different flavors and they did not offer an option for a flavor that had not been cross-contaminated with a flavor that had peanuts/peanut butter. This was our first time visiting Wentworth's and I was really excited to try it, but the experience was unfortunately very negative (most places have peanut flavors but are more friendly/polite, accomodating, or at least clean their scoops between flavors). I would not recommend them, as there are other better options...

I decided to come after an awesome day kayaking new haven harbor and I found it on BringFido as being dog friendly. It isn't. I was hoping they'd have an outdoor window but when I noticed they didn't I brought in my extremely quiet, well trained Aussie inside and the instant I did someone working there rudely shouted at me that they don't allow dogs. Plus, other patrons gave me dirty looks. Didn't give me any solution on how I was supposed to order if I had a dog. I immediately left. I'm not supporting a massively dog unfriendly business like this. They get you all excited by having a dog flavor ice cream and everything, but apparently you can't go in to actually order the ice cream. Happy memorial day weekend to you too. It's simple. Get an outdoor window to order from, allow dogs inside, or don't call your business...

This has been a favorite place of ours for over 10 years! Wonderful homemade ice cream. The staff is always friendly and fast. Even when they're extremely busy, they're organized and the line moves very fast. It's always clean and they have ample parking space. Even when the lot is full, if you just wait for a little bit...there's so much movement, a parking space is bound to open up. They have excellent chocolate sprinkles and an excellent peanut butter reese's sundae! They have lots of choices to choose from. They have indoor seating, restrooms, plus lots of room outside to eat. They have a gazebo and many customers bring their dogs outside to eat ice cream with them. This is June 2019 and Sleepy Giant Park is back open so Wentworth's is a great place to end your day after going...
