We picked up a take-out order for a quick dinner in our hotel room before heading out to Tanglewood. There are some nice things here, but value for money isn't one of them.
Staff were extremely friendly, and one daughter appreciated the smiley faces that were drawn on various takeout containers, which was cute. I wish we had realized, though, that we needed to ask, if we wanted ketchup.
The roasted chickpea appetizer was really tasty, though we felt like we needed the extra serving to make it worthwhile. Needs to be stirred up from the bottom of the takeout container, or you'll miss the labneh at the bottom.
Steak frites was a disappointment. Not a great steak, cooked a little bit past the medium rare we were hoping for, and in stingy portions for the price tag (especially at $3 extra for a baked potato). I realize we're in a time when a $17 burger is what you expect, but this still strikes me as a bit much.
Kimchi ji-gae is a stew of kimchi, tofu, and scallions, served with rice on the side. The kimchi and broth were uninspired, flavor was sort of a one-note wonder.
The value on this order was in the kid's order for chicken fingers. These were genuine, substantial filets of chicken, generously breaded and fried, with gorgeous double-fried potatoes. (See above comment about the ketchup, though they were also tasty dipped into the labneh and the sour cream from the potatoes.)
So, there were some things that were quite tasty, and maybe we just didn't order the right things. Service was very friendly and what I saw of the atmosphere looked very warm...
Read moreGave it a try our last night in Hancock, menu looked promising. Have to say it was just ok. Had reservations and had to wait 15minutes past to get seated. We ordered steak frites and the steaks were warm not hot, says it come with BB sauce which was ok in flavor but they drowned the steaks in it. Wife paid $3 extra to have baked potato, it was terrible overcooked/dried out. Ordered a martini, came in a non martini glass and olives had pits which was not disclosed. Potential dental disaster.. Staff was friendly and service ok, somewhat understaffed given how busy it was. Atmosphere was not in alignment with the price. Was formerly Powder Hounds and interior hasn’t changed, that 70’s show and insanely loud. Would have thought they would at least Sheetrock the walls and put some acoustic tile in to reduce noise and update look to match prices but the owners decided to save a buck. The same furniture was still being used from Powder hounds with same junk wall decorations and fake plants. They recently opened so maybe they’ll improve but at their prices we’ll not come back as there are better choices just a...
Read moreFive Stars – Smitty is the Heartbeat of Bluebird I don’t usually write reviews, but after visiting and experiencing the artistry of their bartender, Smitty, I had to say something. From the moment I sat down at the bar, Smitty made me feel like a regular—even though it was my first time there. His knowledge of spirits is incredible, but what really sets him apart is his instinct for reading the room. Whether you’re in the mood for something classic or want to try something off the cuff, Smitty nails it every time. I asked for “something refreshing but not too sweet,” and he served up a custom gin cocktail that I’m still thinking about days later. He’s got that rare balance of professionalism and warmth—attentive without hovering, friendly without being overbearing. And watching him work behind the bar is a show in itself: smooth, efficient, and with an easy confidence that sets the tone for the whole space. If you're heading to Bluebird, do yourself a favor and grab a seat at the bar. Smitty doesn’t just mix drinks—he curates experiences. Easily one of the best bartenders I’ve...
