Hickory Cafe & Grill — Restaurant in Harahan

Updated 11/8/19. Went with the regular customer and once again got great service. But I also notice that they now advise other that they can take a seat and they would be with them in a minute. The food was fabulous.. Cuban Sandwich and especially the Bread Pudding. Seems like Manager listening (reading comments, Kudos!)

My first vist was good, but I suspect it was because I was with a regular customer. We walked in, sat down and a waitress came and took our order. My second visit I walked in, sat down and nothing but stares. They were a little busy with a group of four or five customers at the counter awaiting take out. But even then, both the person behind the bar, and the waitress who came out made eye contact with me but said nothing. After about 15 minutes, with only one person still at the counter, another Customer came in went to the counter, was greeted, ordered and sat down. So from my table I asked if I needed to order at the counter or will a waitress come take my order. In a not so friendly way I was told to order at the counter, eventhough I was a dine in Customer. . I did and waited for my food at the table. It was only after getting my foot that I was told the drink I ordered was also self service.

Great place for regular customers, but not...

I feel so bad writing a negative review because I really wanted to like this place, but this was NOT it.

The restaurant is small, which is fine, but it's definitely not clean. There is mold growing in the ceiling tiles & the air ducts look like they haven't been cleaned since the place probably opened. I can't imagine that's healthy for the employees or customers, and I definitely don't want that dirty air blowing on my food.

As for the menu, it looks really fresh & appetizing but the food just does not meet the mark. I ordered the honey mustard turkey sandwich which was quite literally subway quality. I asked for no swiss & to change it to pepper jack & of course there was swiss. My friend ordered the fried chicken club salad and they failed to put the egg and didn't serve it with dressing at first. The cashier/waitress was going a mile a minute trying to deal with the early 2000's cash register so no wonder these details were missed. This place could be awesome with some help, but for now, it is absolutely not worth $15 for a sandwich,...

I have been coming to this place for about 4 years or so.The food and service is outstanding

Edit. I'm changing my review from 5 stars to 1. Everybody and they mama know how to make burgers so I come here for service and if you can't provide good service, it makes no sense to keep coming. I'm 4 months pregnant and ordered a bacon cheeseburger well done and it was rare. I can't eat that. I called in, hoping they could remake my order. They don't know I'm pregnant and mistakes do happen. Well the manager had the audacity to get on the phone all indignant and ask me well what you want me to do about it. It's not what he said,its how he said it. So nasty and so rude. I told him give me my money back. By the time I came back on the phone with my card info, he had a different tone but to late, the damage had already been done. I have been coming here for years and will no longer give them my business. Restaurants mess up orders all the time,but it's about how you service the customer that allows them to redeem themselves.
