I stopped at Derby's after spending some time at the Delaware State Fair just down the road and I couldn't quite make up my mind what I wanted to eat. Seeing no big deals, I decided to stop here and enjoy a local restaurant. Derby's is pretty much the local watering hole for Harrington and has an atmosphere of a small-town restaurant. It was clean and well-kept and felt like I had plenty of room in the dining area. Nothing spectacular but it felt right in line with a local institution. They also have quite the variety of items in their menu as well. Anything from burgers and sandwiches to steaks and well...the other "steak" (aka cheesesteaks) and seafood. They also have a rotating seasonal menu with other options to try as well. The service was decent though I felt it was a bit on the slow side the later into my visit I was as I did have to wait a couple minutes to get a refill on my soda. Other than that, the service was good and the server was generally pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu. I started my meal with their seasonal crab soup, which is a tomato-based soup I found pretty tasty. Do note, they have a year-round cream of crab soup on their menu as well. I also had the pulled pork on mac 'n' cheese, which is one of their seasonal menu items. The pork was very tasty and had a good mouth feel with the right amount of chew and was decently seasoned. The mac 'n' cheese was thick and creamy as I generally prefer my mac and the cornbread was awesome. It was soft but held up very well to the BBQ and mac and with a dribble or two of their honey which they have available as a condiment was near-perfect. The only critique I have is that between the cornbread and the richness of the mac 'n' cheese, the choice of BBQ doesn't quite work for me as I found it a bit sweet for my liking. I would recommend going with something either a bit smokier or have a little bit of heat to help balance out the dish. Other than that, I very much enjoyed it and it was very filling. I don't know if it was just Saturday night or whatever, but I was served some pudding (to go in my case) which was also a pretty good pudding. If you're passing through or stopping in the area, Derby's is a great local option for dinner with a great variety of offerings...
Read moreSo, I travel a lot and I do plenty of reviews! WITH OVER 2,000 CONTRIBUTIONS TO GOOGLE, THIS WAS THE BEST EXPERIENCE FROM START TO FINISH 🙏🙌❤️ if you are in DELAWARE this restaurant is a must! Very clean! I would just like to say from the start to the finish from the time I walked in the building, all the way until I sat down I was greeted immediately, as soon as I sat down my waitress Alex, she was absolutely smiles and and busy busy.. next another waitress greeted me as she walked by and just said hello with a smile and that made me feel so warm. Her name was Melissa, then you have the bus person... He was letting his servers know if somebody came in and sat it in their section and everything.WOW!! Talking about feeling like family I've felt the most warmest sensation here. Come to find out the person who greeted me was the owner he's owned the place for one year and his name is HONOR.. well, the honor was mine. This is going to be a very lengthy review. I've never experienced such quality this place literally hit a 10/10 absolute best experience I've ever had. I haven't even got to the food yet😂🥰🥰🙏🙌 I'm from Ohio I'm passing through I had a little business here to take care of. So everything from the consistency of the cream of crab soup, to the homie made pea dumpling.. all the way to the homemade bread pudding I had an early Thanksgiving dinner which was shredded pulled turkey and stuffing with a nice chicken base gravy that was phenomenal. Even the macaroni and cheese was great. OUT OF 2060 REVIEWS I HAVE DONE THIS WAS MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE PLACE FROM START TO FINISH. GOD BLESS AND I TOLD HIM MANAGER I HOPE HE DOESN'T CHANGE A THING THE QUALITY AND THE SERVICE WAS 100% SATISFACTORY.. WE DEFINITELY NEED MORE PLACES LIKE THIS GOD BLESS...
Read moreIf you enjoy diners then this an absolute win, wide open spaces where friendly staff greated us at the door, nice homey interior on the freshly renovated eating area. A beautiful display case greated us with a veritable bevy of delicious looking cakes and pies and a handwritten sign by the front area advertised the daily specials. Let's get to the food. We got the mega fries which was a very large and generous helping of crispy fries literally drowned in cheddar and motz cheese with lots of bacon throughout, scrumptious. I got the meatloaf sandwich which came with salad or soup and 2 sides, I went with the cream of crab with was literally decadent. I could have just gotten a bowl of that and been happy. Creamy, thick, every spoonful had chunks of crab with a light dusting of Old Bay on top. To die for!! The meatloaf sandwich was good, came across more like Salisbury Steak due to the thin slices of fried meatloaf drowning in brown gravy on top of toasted thick cut white bread. The mac and cheese was great, rich and cheesy with good flavor and the coleslaw while a little runny and chunky was surprisingly really good. Nice and sweet. The cheesesteak wrap was HUGE, nicely pressed with nice brown crisp lines across the face of the wrap, it was everything you could ask for in a cheesesteak wrap. All in all, this is such a gigantic improvement from what it was, clean, refreshing, delicious and very...
