September 2023 Edit: Our original trip to Shift was a 5āļø experience. We've returned a few times since and it's time for an update. The service & atmosphere are still great. Building is clean, staff is attentive and professional while not being too present. The front of house staff is put in sticky situations when the food quality from the kitchen isn't as expected. The food selections & quality is the reason for the update. In the handful of times we've been back the Sunday dinner is no longer available although it's still shown on the menu (major bummer when I brought my parents out specifically for it). The Caesar salad that used to be excellent is now a creamy italian dressing applied way too heavily (wiping dressing off of sad lettuce...), the fish & chips was bland with very thick breading (fried pickle found inside the thick fish breading), the burger patty is bland and obviously pre-frozen. The Caesar salad was off enough that we asked the server about it because 3 of us had ordered it, she swore it really was a Caesar dressing it's just a different brand than they used to use. The coleslaw tasted off. There are just a lot of inconsistencies which are piling up. I can no longer recommend this restaurant to someone with the confidence that they'd get what they ordered and enjoy their meal.
Original review below--- We reserved a table through Open Table for 6pm Sunday. There were plenty of tables open when we arrived. He got a couple bottled beers and I ordered the smoked Old Fashioned. My drink was STRONG. The fried pickles. These are thin chips, not spears. The mountain of fried pickles comes with ranch & spicy ranch and would have been plenty for 4 normal people to split but the 2 of us finished them by the end of our meal lol. We didn't order it but we saw other tables getting these beautiful giant soft pretzels with bier cheese... next time!
We could order the Sunday Chicken Dinner Special which is all you can eat fried chicken, 4 sides, cheddar biscuits & a dessert for $19.99 each. We picked Side Salad, mac&cheese, mashed potatoes & green beans and they were all EXCELLENT. This was the best side salad we've had at a restaurant maybe ever. Real fancy lettuce, cherry tomatoes that were actually red all the way through, Cucumbers, red onion, buttery croutons. The green beans- ok, a lot of places will give you canned green beans- not Shift! These were clearly real, living green beans that had been sautƩed with onions & bacon. I'm not kidding when I say that I could have ordered an entire meal of just these green beans. Get the green beans!! (But note they aren't veggie or vegan) The chicken, mashed potatoes & mac&cheese were all great too. They were very much homemade comfort food and we will get them all again. All of the chicken & sides was available to get refilled if you'd like. We found that all of the chicken/sides arrived to us in perfect portions for both of us to be FULL but but also not wasting any food unnecessarily. Restaurants sometimes give way too large of portions so I wanted to point out that this was done perfectly and we noticed it.
For the chicken dinner you each pick out a dessert. The options when we went were banana pudding, chocolate butter cake and vanilla butter cake.
Our server was so gracious and polite all night. She was accurate, prompt and had excellent timing. This was our first trip to Shift and we'll happily make the 30 minute trip back to come support this restaurant and the wonderful people we encountered during the trip. This is a lot of words to say we had a great time at Shift, enjoyed an excellent meal in a place filled with caring, attentive staff. We're looking forward to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe sat at the bar. The beers were $4.00 for domestic which seems outrageous for the area, this isn't downtown. We waited well over an hour, close to 2 without getting our food. I actually watched a young man walk past us with our food and take it to another room in the restaurant. The owner said they showed our food had been delivered but apparently it went to the wrong table. They did pay for all our beers and canceled our order. I gave 4 stars because it was opening night AND the night before Thanksgiving and it's new so kinks need to be worked out. We'll give it another shot when not so hectic!
UPDATE: We stopped in Sunday afternoon to watch some football because they advertised $2.00 domestic drafts. We ordered 2 Mich Ultras (which is listed on the menu under bottle beers as a domestic) and my husband asked if they were $2.00. The bartender told us that the Mich Ultra draft was not considered domestic....but the bottle is?!?!?! Anyway, a Mich Ultra draft is $4.50 (for a 16 oz beer!). You can go to BW3 and get a 22 oz for $3.50. I still think they're way overpriced on their alcohol. Anyway, we left.
We went back last night for dinner. My husband got the cod sandwich with mac and cheese. I got the chicken sandwich with no tomato and a sweet potato. My sandwich came out with tomato on it, not too big of a deal...just took it off. The mac and cheese wasn't that good, noodles were overcooked in our opinion. Velveeta shells and cheese at home is way better. He said the cod was just okay and that's how I felt about my chicken. The food is mediocre in our opinion and overpriced for what it is. They do have an amazing Merlot by One Hope. The service was also very good.
I am not a cheap person who expects to get something for nothing. I have no issues paying more for something that is really good. I believe that you get what you pay for most of the time. With Shift I feel like I am paying for upscale restaurant food but getting chain restaurant (i.e. O'Charleys, TGIF,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe went there for Thanksgiving. Expensive but then itās a holiday. They brought 1 dinner roll per person and told that was all we could have with the meal. The salad looked fancy but no head lettuce. Delivered on a plate which we shared. We had the choice of 2 meats. Our group decided on turkey and ham. We were told we got choice of 5 sides but the whole group had to have the same 5. Of course mashed potatoes and stuffing was chosen but no gravy. Stiffing was so dry that it was like paste. Also got mixed vetetables that were like mush. I got a spoon full and all I had was peppers. The macaroni and cheese was very good. We also got broccoli casserole which I liked. Then dessert was choice of pumpkin pie, pecan pir or cookie. I got pecan pie which was 1/4 in width. I said oh well Iām full. Then our son asked for a box for left overs and we were told you canāt take anything with you. I asked then what will you do with all this food. She wouldnāt answer and walked away. Ok letās guess what the did with it. Did they dump it and waste all the food or was it served again on another table. Whatever they did with it is a shame. The service was great. We are a business owner and realize that people will steal but if you canāt take left overs then they need a buffet or only serve a plate of food. Price was $30 per person which did not include drinks or tip. Final cost per person came to over $40 per person. Iām not complaining about the price because I expected it to be expensive but at that price I expect to take what I donāt eat home. The restaurant only had a few people present and...
