You know its dissapointing...
Ive been a semi-resident of CT for 25 years now. Every time im in town visiting family I always visit Benjies. Thier food is never a let down, always hot, fresh and always good.
The cons?
What you have to go through to get it.
More often than not the food isn't ready (my wife and I left for 30mins as more than half of the menu items weren't available yet) another man walked in and after being denied Fried Chicken he exclaimed "What?? Again?!?! Why are you guys like this all the time??? Do you need more workers or what? Another young lady turned and left after being denied Ox Tail.
It was 1145 on a Monday which to a normal restaurant owner would be ridiculous that nearly nothing is ready and customers were not only complaining but also walking out.
Their attitude...more often than not, doesn't matter who (with the exception of the young woman behind the register who actually TRIES to be pleasant) you'll always recieve bad attitude from them. No greeting, no smile, no nothing, just a look up, and will only respond while you're ordering when they don't have something that you ask for, ex; " No Oxtail!!" then will just go back to the dead stare.
This is no lie whatsoever...the mailmain came in and said hello to everyone....no response..
Upon returning to the restaurant after waiting outside 35mins we picked up our meals and packed them in the car for the trip back home to Mass..
There are well over 20 West Indian restaurants in Hartford alone. Our favorite was Jahm Ske down the street from Benjies until they too began treating customers the same way, overcharging and giving smaller quantities...
As much as it hurts, just looks like we wont be back for our large order next visit..the search continues for yet another good Jamaican...
Read moreWithin the last two months I have been disappointed with quality of the food coming out of Benjie's kitchen. Last month I order stew and fried chicken the sew chicken was rubbery as if it was cooked too long and the fried chicken there was parts of it that was undercooked. The rice and peas was another matter some of the rice was hard and some parts was soft. DID YOU GUYS HIRED A NEW CHEF because the quality of the food is not same. I gave you a break with last month order, thinking that due to quarantine you had a high demand for food but this month we ordered curry goat and oxtails with rice and peas it was very disappointing there was a significant difference in the food even my husband who's not western thought the food was not up to the standard of taste as it use to be. Unfortunately I will have to find another Jamaican restaurant to patronize because I can't knowingly paid for food that doesn't...
Read moreThis review is for the one that is across from Auto Zone. Their food is sometimes, I recently bought some red peas soup one Friday and it was horrible (the meat wasn't cleaned properly and just the flavor wasn't as good) and this was about a month ago. Moreover, the customer service at nights is horrible, I have experienced this about three times and I left and went all the way to Dunn's River this Saturday just for better service. There's this older man who is behind the counter and no matter how you walk in and you are standing there for a while, there's no urgency and acknowledgement when you go in there at a certain time. I actually wanted to give a half a star, but I was unable to. Customer service is bad, the older lady in the day is okay, but other than that the others treat you like you're begging them something when it's your money that helps to pay them and keep those...
