Incompetent Gross Expensive. Although the preparation was good, the ingredients are subpar, sparse, and lacking. Legends roll is no legend. If there was soft shell crab in it, it had left the building years ago. Couldn’t’ find it, couldn’t taste it. It was very heavy on the spring mix relish that looked and tasted more like a chimichurri. Bitter sweet with sparse mango and nothing exceptional or even average. Good Times roll. Description says “make it last” and I will—it’s the last time I’ll ever order it. Or eat here for that matter. You can even say first and last time. Solid. Same thing, as before—bland, what fried seafood? Below average. They should spend more time on the food and not the kitsch. Cymbal lights at tables dirty and splattered. Bench booth seats are like they hadn’t been replaced since the 70’s as the cheap black naugahyde was broken up, cracked, and missing chunks of “hyde”. Enjoy that on bare legs in summer. Sat looking at the front entry divider/catch-all/seating booth with dirty table cleaning rags and bottles of spray cleaner on the ledge just above a customer’s head. That is definitely a hit from the Health Inspector. Obviously the health regulation classes are a fail here. Does anyone have a certificate? At least one person on staff is required to have an updated one on site at all times open. Napkin dispenser half empty, did not work properly as the spring was broken. Had to dig into for napkins on deep bottom. Waitress couldn’t get order right. Served us a cucumber salad that we did not order. After being told they were out of Seaweed salad she tried to sell us that. We said no, she brought it anyway. Refused it. Table across from us refused a dish they did not order too. Upsell problems? Then at ticket time, got charged for a roll we did not order. Had to get busboy to track down waitress to take it off before paying. Overall, what a joke. You can get better “sushi” (and seaweed salad) included at any of Hattiesburg Chinese buffets for what we paid here or less at over $30 for two rolls and city water. And what’s the deal with sweet chili sauce on sushi? This is definitely American style fast food kitsch. I’ve eaten plenty of REAL and quality Japanese sushi and sashimi. This ain’t it if that’s what you are looking for. It’s not even as good as the buffet stuff as I said. Owner, don’t even reply as with all others—I’m a successful business owner/Professional Chef, you apparently are not. I know plenty of owners like this. Fix your system by serving what is quality right and put some money into training your staff, cleaning the place up, and taking a little less off the top. That’s the way you stay in business for a long time—even in a college town. Because eventually even lipstick...
Read moreEdit #3: I tried this place again after a couple months because the sushi is SO good, so after I placed my order over the phone, they told me it would be a 30-minute wait. No problem. I gave extra time, showed up 55 minutes later, and they hadn't started making my order yet. I'm sorry, but I won't be back. Miss the axl rolls.
Edit #2: I was the first customer of the day today and saw the sushi chef begin preparing my order, two identical sushi rolls, at 11:22am, 21 minutes after I placed my order. As soon as he started it, the waitress said "He's almost done with your order". No, he isn't, I can see that he just started, because the sushi bar is right in front of the dining room. Just tell me the truth. I know there were WiFi problems today, but if that is the case, then open up late. The restaurant is supposed to be ready to go when it opens, not still prepping. No reason for the very first customer of the day to wait 35 minutes for food delivery after placing an easy order. The sushi is sooo good, so I put up with the wait time, but still... A 35 minute wait would be reasonable at noon, but at 11am, there is no excuse.
Edit: I have ordered several times over the phone now and it is working. This place has my favorite sushi in Mississippi. My favorite is the Axl roll. The fried salmon roll is also delicious. It is warm and fried without being full of that rubbery tempura breading. There is always plenty of seating. When I dined in, my server was attentive. There lots of options and the sushi is...
Read moreCompletely unprofessional I stood there at the front by myself because I’m staying over at the hotel indigo and and wanted to grab dinner. I steadily watched all the employees not saying anything to me to be seated. As 3 young beautiful College student come in and the “hostess” go’s and tells them “looking in their eyes with respect on why there’s a wait. HI IM NICOLE I would have waited if you would have knowledge me as well. So maybe when you have a person standing there don’t have your staff Single them out! I’m not saying this to be a Karen but it’s the way someone is having a Conversation right in front of you and not including feeling. I will never…. recommend this place. I would rather go to an sushi place on the wrong side of town. At lease you will be able to not stand there and wait to just be ignored as if you were their in the 1st place. I feel for for those that have a hearing problem bc if they did and this happens again. They would still be standing there. Also since I work all over.. I will not be going to the any of the others.
“Update” no it wasn’t a miscommunication moment. You can’t compare miscommunication with lack of respect to speak to one and not the other. That’s called ignoring people. I understand what happen with the system and would have waited but due to singling out one who was clearly there what seemed like 5-7 mins before the 3 girls walked in is a bit...
