Maaaaaaaaachaca! Machaca-machaca-machaca! Yep. Secret spot in the Ko'olau Center strip mall, you'd never know it was fabulous from the outside. Inside is CLEAN. Clean fans, lights, railings, floors, bathrooms (see pics), pictures, counters. Like you want in a kitchen. Like you should have anywhere. Charming, kitchsy decor. Ample free parking in Ko'olau Center. Reasonable prices. Kids' menu was appropriate without being all dinosaur-shaped nuggets (you know which Mexican restaurant I am referring to). Rice was lightly seasoned and fresh--too often have had old, chopped up, overly spiced/salted (to hide the age) rice in other places on island. Chile Colorado was soft, well-cooked, and well-marinated. Balanced flavors. Homemade beans. And they have machaca!!! If you grew up with this breakfast staple, you know it isn't on most menus here, and you are sad. But they serve it here! ¡Bailamos! Corn or flour tortillas, your choice. Chile relleno: fresh, bright, deep green chile; plump with the right cheese & a lot of but not overly heavy sauce. No hardened or plastic cheese, no cheap Monterey Jack cheese fraud filling. Everything from the filling to the choice of chile (see pics) says someone in the kitchen grew up eating this. Get the tradicional, tho there are variations on menu. Fried ice cream's outer dough was like the best churro dough, and vanilla ice cream was dense, rich, and generous. Drizzled with chocolate and caramel sauce and some whipped cream. If you've kids, they're in heaven. Satisfying & shareable. Flan occasionally on special. Served in a square cut from a larger pan (aww, I missed the caramel). Flavor was light tho good, creamy consistency, and good density w/a pretty even cook. Served with a side of ice cream, whipped cream, and caramel drizzle. I'd have preferred more caramel from the flan itself instead, but ultimately satisfying. Flan's texture saved it. Rich and shareable. Reasonable price, clean shop, beautiful customer service. Newer restaurant getting its legs. 4 stars for food & beautifully clean shop, extra star for fantastic service (ask for Natalie).

I want to give it a 5 but the food was overpriced and inconsistently disappointing for the price. I have been in search of a good a flavorful Mexican restaurant and this looked like it might be it but sadly, no. Not authentic We got the horchata pitchure and thought it was reasonably priced and very delicious. My partner got the breakfast burrito and he thought that was amazing. I got the chorizo queso and I thought that was amazing so imagine my disappointment when I get their seafood fajitas which cost $30 and they're just such a letdown. They were oily, flavorless and overpriced. Some of the worst fajitas I have ever had. I ended up eating one taco and packing the rest to take home. I will season it up in my own kitchen. I wanted to give this place five stars and had I not ordered that seafood fajita I might have but when our bill came and it was nearly $100 with tip for two people and we didn't even get alcohol, that to me was a let down. Had to mark down. There's no reason a seafood fajita mostly made a fish should cost $30. I might expect that from a steak fajita. The service was exceptional and that is what stopped me from going any lower in my review. Our waitress was very attentive and kind

We’ve never been ignored like this before. I got not what I ordered and my Auntie got the worst carne asada she ever had. When I complained The waiter said that she will ask and left and didn’t come back until we ate what we got, then brought us the check. She nicely ignored my question to talk to the manager, said she is sorry and merry Christmas, she wouldn’t tell me name of the cook. .the cashier guy said that thr cook was either Ty or Sammy (who is the owner as he said) can’t imagine sammy would have let it go ,So that means that waiter went and told the owner Sammy that we’re not happy with what we got and he told her to ignore us, because she just didn’t come back until she brought us the check, or she faked talking to Sammy. I picked this place for a lunch date with my hanai Auntie because it used to be our favorite place when we lived here and my husband and I had great food there just 2 days ago. So probably call and ask who is the cook before you go!!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Five-Star Review for Chille Relleno

I can't express enough how thrilled I am with the catering services provided by Chille Relleno (Kanehoe) for my birthday party! They truly exceeded all expectations, and I'm giving them a well-deserved five stars.
