I didn't know what I was getting into. I was just driving around with my family exploring, and we got hungry. This place is just wonderful! It reminds me of little hole in the wall places back home with food that blows the mind. I had the much mentioned pastrami on rye. It was the best sandwich I ever had. The best, hands down, 6 years on this earth living all over the United States, and this sandwich was perfect. I was lucky to eat at the Carnegie Deli (before they closed) and Katz delicatessen visiting NYC as a young man. Prior to this, they were tied for number 1, they are now number 2. This we wonderful little restaurant had meat that was so flavorful, moist, perfect seasoning, bread not overpowering, but adding to the sandwich. The sauerkraut and horseradish were also compliments adding to not overtaking or the likes. Dressing was also just enough. The combination as stated was perfect. I was planning on taking half home for later...didn't happen! Couldn't stop eating it all right there. Oh and not to make this secondary but the staff were friendly as could be. As a sidenote I had an Arnold Palmer and that too was wonderful. Somehow this lovely little place finds great products, add-ons, etc that others can't....
Read moreI was on a deadly serious mission to try this Pub's signature pastrami sandwich. Let me preface this review by saying that I'm from New York, so I KNOW pastrami! I'm gonna cut straight to the chase, sandwich broke da mouth 100%! I've honestly never had a pastrami on rye that even came close to being as good. Everything about it was perfect, but it was the way the beef was seasoned and cooked that really set it apart. It had the texture of a slow cooked pot roast that was thinly sliced and piled high. It was incredibly satisfying to the mouth with every bite.
And the pub was so cute and had such a welcoming vibe! I'd never been there before and was alone, but as soon as I sat myself down at the bar, Maile greeted me and we developed an instant rapport. She was an absolute doll and we had so much fun talking story and sharing laughs. I can't wait to return with my friends and family. I had such an amazing and memorable experience! A five star rating just isn't...
Read moreSolid little dive in the old first bank of Hilo building in historic Honoka'a town. You can call in an order ahead of time for pickup. Pizza is popular, one slice is enough for a person, a whole pie is good for a family. The Italian sausage has a good spicy kick to it. Happy hour is 1$ off pupus, the cheese bread with pepperoni is our favorite for a quick bite to eat. Caesar salad is solid. Tater tots are always piping hot. Sandwiches are okay. Recently started opening early for breakfast on NFL sundays, we haven't had a chance to try it but heard good reviews from folks.
Weekly karaoke is the biggest draw, live music and open mic nights draw a crowd too. Great for a night out, kid friendly place, stays open later than anywhere else in town. Some of the TVs are showing their age, but it's the only place in town to grab a pint and watch games. Friendly and...
