We where excited to try this place under new management! I thought this was a pretty cool looking place! I loved the decorations when we walked in! The food smelled great and I was hopeful that we had made the right decision to stop here and eat, instead of going home and cooking! So we had an issue that prompted us to have to leave the restaurant! It had nothing to do with the food, and at this point is not important to mention! What is important is that the management reached out to rectify this situation!!! THIS IS GOOD BUSINESS! This is way they deserve five stars! So…..if you ever have a situation of any kind at this establishment, reach out to the management, they will do their best to make it right! I worked with Diane, she was very cool, compassionate, understanding, and very easy to work with! I’ve heard great things about this place, so I was very happy to find out that they handle business properly! I am excited to try the food that I have Heard so many good things about, soon! 🤙🤙
Today I got to eat the food! It was great! The staff was so friendly, and provided great service! They even gave my dog a biscuit! How cool is that!
It is a very cool atmosphere out on the patio! Very low key and relaxing! BTW, the food...

The restaurant has a laid-back atmosphere, making it a great place to relax and enjoy a casual meal. The staff here are exceptionally friendly and courteous, always ready with a smile and happy to help, which adds to the welcoming feel of the place.
One of the standout dishes is their fish and chips. While it might not rival the classic British version (let’s be honest, few places outside the UK can), it’s still quite good by American standards. The fish is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and the portion size is generous. It’s a satisfying option if you’re craving something fried and comforting, though purists might find it a bit different from the traditional British style.
Overall, South Kona Grindz is a reliable spot for hearty, no-fuss meals. The friendly service and relaxed atmosphere make it a great choice for a low-key dining experience. While the fish and chips might not transport you to a seaside town in England, they’re still a tasty option worth trying. If you’re in the area and looking for a casual meal with a side of aloha spirit, this place is...

This is like our 6th eating here!
South Kona Grindz is hands down one of our favorite spots on the Big Island, and for good reason. This funky, eclectic little restaurant delivers some of the freshest fish and chips around—crispy, never greasy, and always full of flavor. On our latest visit, four of us ordered their classic fish and chips, while Greg went for the fish tacos. Every bite was as good as we remembered! I love the panko crust covered ono. I opted for sweet potato fries, which paired perfectly with the lightly battered, perfectly cooked fish.
The atmosphere is part of the charm—it’s a casual, quirky place filled with fun décor and plenty to look at. I even picked up a beautiful painting from a local artist who was selling her work inside. A tiny tuxedo cat roaming around added to the charm.
We took our food to go and enjoyed it at Two Step Beach, making for a perfect island lunch. The only challenge was parking, which was a bit packed on a Sunday. If you’re visiting South Kona, this spot is well worth the stop for a delicious meal and a laid-back, local experience. Can’t wait to...
